just wanted to thank you for your help.the 110 hornaday's shot pretty poorly, but the 125 speer tnt's were in the high three's low four's. if i can learn to stear, i think it will get better. found some 117gr fowlers, going to give them a try. thanks again ric

If you are using wind flags in decent conditions, then the .3/.4 is less than I can usually do with the Speer 125TNT. But, if you aren't using flags then the .3/.4 is probably really pretty good.

If you shoot a five shot group that's less than a .3 to .4 without flags then it's just blind luck. Even when the conditions are calm there is always some air movement out there. You just can't realize how much a bullet can move if shot #1 is shot in a very gentle 3 o'clock push and bullet #2 is shot in a very gentle 9 o'clock push. It's spooky.

If you are using flags please disregard this post cause you already have found all of this out.,grin)

Ric...glad to hear that things are looking good with your 30BR. To add to Shelley's excellent comments, I would just add to make sure and include neck tension as a tuning aid.

These .30BR's can be real responsive to neck tension. I suggest a decent amount of 'jam',about .020 more than 'just touching'), start at 32.5 with H4198 Hodgden, go up in .5 gr. increments to about 34.5 or until you run out of case capacity, and a neck bushing that gives .002 smaller necks than your loaded round measures over the pressure ring. This will likely be a .003 smaller bushing.

Shoot a 5 shot group at each powder charge, then take the best group and increase the neck tension by .001 a time, shooting a 5 shot group to see the changes. It's not unusual to see people using a .005 smaller button than the loaded round measures in these 30BR's.

Once you get a decent 100 yd. baseline stablished, do your tuning at 200 yds. from there on. Tuning at 200 pays big dividends. :thumb:

Hope to see you at a match somewhere. Good shootin' :) -Al

you two are a great help. yesterday i shot 117gr fowlers with 34gr of 4198, i had some great blind luck. the chamber has a .332 neck, i used a .330 bushing on 50 rounds and a .329 on 50,the .329 bushing seems to be the best so far.i have been shooting 100 and 200yds both looking real good.the cci primers are just starting to crater, i am .010 in, i will play with powder, bushing and jam,.200 rounds down the barrel, i think i like the 30br, alot. thanks again ric
