Air Pod Pro 2 for hunting / shooting

So hear me out before everyone jumps in and tells me …. Not nice things . I was fooling around with settings in my ear pod pro 2’s and noticed it has a hearing aid ability. Long story short after setting up you can use them like electronic ear muffs on the range where it enhances voices then cuts out with load noises. I dug a little deeper and found in adaptive mode it has 25-29 db of attenuation

  • Adaptive Mode: This mode intelligently adjusts noise levels and provides an estimated 25–29 dB of attenuation in loud environments, such as during a commute.
I looked at my shooting headphones and they have 25 db of attenuation. So I said let’s fire a couple shots and see. Well dam. Obviously with no real gauges or anything scientific I can honestly say they canceled more noise than my shooting headphones. Has anyone used them for shooting? I know Apple says no but that can also be because the last thing that company wants wants to do is lean right and advertise shooting not to mention that is obviously not their intended purpose. Using them at factory setting it has a NRR of 10 which I agree is to little. 25-29 definitely isn’t. Any thoughts on this??

I wouldn’t trust them for shooting. I have a pair and they are great but they do not have a certified NRR. I use ESP custom plugs for shooting.

I have them and have also tried them but their effectiveness is very dependent upon how well they fit and stay fit in the ear canal. Mine worked well for a few shots but eventually loosened. I was doing a bit of load development with a heavy varmint rig in 6br .

I was using Beats ear buds with noise canceling while hunting last year to listen to music while slow stalking timber. Made a shot and had no ear ringing at all. This year I'll be doing the same in addition to being suppressed. I would use dedicated plugs and muffs at the range though. Once your hearing goes it's gone. I do almost anything barring a helmet to protect my hearing.

Thanks for the replies. Alpha I was thinking same thing regarding using them hunting more so than range. I figure I typically use nothing so it can’t be worse. I shoot from a solid blind and this year im using my 500 S&W. That gun is load as hell at the range can’t wait to have it go off in the blind.
