Air gun shots per fill question.

This may not be the right site for this question but there are a lot of smart people on here. I've been beating my brain trying to come up with some type of a reasonable #.
Say I have an Fx Impact with a 580cc tank. I get 60 shots per fill from 3600 psi down to 2100. If I hook my rifle to a 73 cu.ft tank when the tank pressure hits 3600 lbs how many shots should I get off the tank down to 2100 psi. Thanks for any help

The FX has two tanks and regulators that are adjustable for your tune, so two different users will get different answers based on their tune.

If you tether the gun to your 73 cu in tank, you will get roughly the same total number of shots you get from regular fills, the difference being you don’t have to stop.

Its early and no coffee yet, but 580cc should be about 35.25 cu in thinking on motorcycles where 1000cc is about 61 cu in. a cu ft is 1728 cu in, so your cu ft is about 48.84 times the size of your 580cc tank. Times 73 cu ft should give you about 3500 times the amount of shots you get right now

Thanks that's makes sense and thanks for the help. I'm taking the tank and my impact on a PD shoot. I was trying to figure if I need to take my compressor. Sounds like I will need more pellets.

It's like a scuba tank. It holds 73 cu/ft at 4500 psi it would be harder to carry 210 thousand 26g slugs if the numbers work out.One reason we shoot off a trailer I'm not up to carrying much anymore.

Holding 73 cu ft at pressure, vs having a 73 cu ft tank, changes calculations quite a bit.

You'll need to figure out how to regulate from the 4500 psi bottle to the gun if you're talking leaving them connected and bottle open. You can't go to 4500, at least on my maverick you can't and pretty sure the impact is the same. 3600 is max pressure

I wasn't going to connect it to the gun until it got below 250 bar. I would just use it to fill the gun until it got to at or below that point. Good point though.

You could add an inline regulator and leave on but another cost for what gain.

You could also do like some carnivals used to do for the bb gun challenges. Get a large K bottle and pump to the guns max pressure and hook straight to that. Would take a long, long time of shooting to get down to your 1st stage pressure and need to be filled.

I doubt we would shoot that much. We usually use the air guns shooting the peakers that pop up around my trailer. They work really well out to 100yds or so.

I run a FX .25 caliber Wildcat. I use 66 cu ft SCBA tanks (have three). The Wildcats tank is 300cc. I figure (according to this caculator) around 900 shots out of the SCBA tank (filling the FX to 3300 psi (230 bar). I refill the rifle at 2000 psi (about 150 bar). I usually get (48) shots before refilling. The caculator shows (19) refills per SCBA tank...around (900) shots. Confusing "ain't" it...Lol!

On one prairie dog trip, there was a National FT Match scheduled at the Seattle Tacoma Club that meant I wouldn’t have time to drive home in between, so I pulled a trailer that had my air gun gear along for the whole trip.

Naturally, the guys from the Rockies were curious and asked me to pull out the rifle, which was a brand new design at the time called a USFT. This is an unregulated design and I was using 0.177 caliber. The rules limit the tune to 20 ft*lbs.

One particular day we were shooting in NW Colorado and the colony was huge with lots of young stupid ones all around us well inside 100 yards.

Everyone lined up to take a try and they couldn’t believe they were making head shots at those distances with a 177 pellet.

I had to refill the gun many times and it used to get over 75 good shots per fill. That was back in 2005 as I recall. I just couldn’t pry it out of their hands.

I live too far and haul too much stuff to be able to bring the air gun stuff on trips, but that trip was an eye opener for those guys. If I lived close enough to make more trips more often, I would haul out a PCP just for kicks. This niche is filled by the 17 HMR on my trips, but the modern PCP rigs would cover most of the same role, just not as explosive.

Yes it's a kick in the pants. I'm shooting 22 cal. 26g slugs at 998 fps. Has close to the power of a 22 short. Head shot or head on chest shots anchor them pretty good. Broad side body shots not so much they will usually get back to the hole.
My buddy just got a 25 cal Impact last year. He's shooting 34g slugs around 900. Hasn't had it out on a town yet but we're going to SD this June. Should hammer them pretty good.

Let's put this into perspective. The only FX airgun which can be ordered (OEM) with two tanks is the Pantera. All the rest have but one.

The 580 cc tank (which I use) isn't the largest one available, but is about as long as you can use with the standard 600 mm barrel (liner actually) and small suppressor. Depending on the caliber and tune, the shot count would be from about 40, to as high as 120, perhaps more. My .25 caliber, Mk III Impact, has a 700 mm tensioned barrel assembly, and is tuned to ≈63 FPE. I shoot the NSA 26.8 grain slugs, at 1,011 FPS ±2 FPS. It gets (depending on the ambient conditions), 65 shots before the first regulator drops below 150 BAR. The second regulator is set for 122 BAR, meaning I can get an additional 25 shots or so before a refill is necessary.

If yours isn't getting this number of shots, then you need to visit Ernest Rowe's site, and follow his recommendations of how to tune an Impact. Remember too, local conditions change the tune! I'm at ≈3850 AoS, and ≈90° during the summer months. Your settings may be different. If you're using an Impact Mk III with a stock 600 mm barrel, the the settings are about 3.5 on the micro adjustment, and the macro at 16. The hammer stop should be adjusted (VERY! slowly) to get the FPS as constant as you can. As noted, ±2 is easily obtainable, especially when using slugs vs. pellets. If you do shot slug, buy the faster twist liner meant for slugs.

By the way, I'm a new member here. I'm 83+ years old, grew up in a sporting goods store in Kansas City, MO in the late 40s through the 50s. I've owned about every gun most can think of, in more calibers than I can remember. The same goes for airguns, especially of late. I think my blood lead level is off the chart!!

Sounds like you should get a tethering setup with regulator

I'm getting 60 shots from 250 to 150 bar on my 580cc tank with 26g patriot slugs at 998 fps. That's the accuracey sweat spot for my gun. On a good day with minimal wind it will shoot 1 moa at 100yds. I have an FX impact Mk3 its a 700mm sniper with the stock superior liner and Donnie FL suppressor. I think I'm at around 57 ft.lbs. I have seen the videos from Ernest. They are very helpful. I'm pretty happy with the shot count and power. I also have a 73 cu/ft. Tiger tank a 18 cu/ft guppy tank and Alpha -Carret compressor from AirTanks forsale.com . I was just trying to get an idea of the number of shots I can get on a PD trip without packing the compressor. Thanks for all the replies.
