Aggravating "Aha moment"

I bought a Wicked Edge knife sharpening system, used. The owner was a late 20 something meat cutter.
He had pulled some threads and material was plugging a thread anda half of a screw.
I checked dia and pitch w my trusty 40 yo Mitchy calipers, dropped in the hardware store for a 10-32 shcs. Installed same.

It did seem the hex wrench fit just a tad loosely. I put my glasses on and discovered said wrench was stamped 4mm. Say what?!
I started checking metric pitches and found a .0003" difference between a 32 pitch and a M5 x .8mm. Just a fwiw.....nuttin more.

My limited metric experience w fasteners left me ignorant of this near convergent point.

I've crossed up the 2 threads occasionally, most recently installing a new hinge on my washing machine door.

BTW, on the wicked edge, I made a couple of new guide rods that fit the diamonds better and really tightened it up.
