African game

Recently returned from almost four weeks on the dark continent. Fished four days on Lake Cahora Bassa in Mozambique for tigerfish and then thirteen days of hunting in Northern Cape and Free State in South Africa. After three years was finally able to get a baboon. Took nine springbok, a blesbok, some springhares and crows but no warthogs or monkeys this time. My hunting partner took an ostrich, baboon, monkey, springbok, african wildcat and a blesbok. Still recuperating from the sixteen hour Delta flight, Joburg to Atlanta.

Wait until you get to Zim and look at Cape Buffalo from about 60 feet away...
I have been blessed by God to hunt their once, and RSA twice. Show the members here what the cleaned skull looks like. Canine teeth to rival a mature Lion.

Some more pics,
1: a ferry on the lake (max depth 515 ft., 181 miles long) carrying many people, two motorcycles, a load of dried fish and a couple dogs; life expectancy if capsized, more for those drowning, less if able to swim.

2: a puff adder squashed on the dirt road leading to our camp,

3: the Stars and Stripes flying over the sleeping quarters.

That sounds like a great adventure. A plains game trip is on my bucket list. What rifles did you tote?

Matt

28 Nosler and .17 Fireball, my hunting partner, a 6.5-284 and .17 Fireball. Action this time was down due to the time of year, mating season for some and birthing time for others. Two other Americans were there for our first week and they shot the rental rifles, all canned, '06, .308 and a .222 Rem.

Africa is defiantly something memories are made of. My buddy and I haven't been the there in 8 years and we reminisce like it was yesterday.

They have massive canines,my dad was bitten by a big male in his teens and the marks are still there on his leg. Ill try to find a foto of a nice big one.

Baboons can be a nuisance to farmers in Africa. We hunted them on a sheep farm that had pivot irrigated alfalfa fields. The little ones swing and play on the sprinkler heads and the big ones eat the winter sheep feed. There was a troop of about 40 a month or so before we arrived but we only saw six total over a few days and shot two. I had a severe case of baboon fever  and missed four times over 300 meters. Finally settled down and got one around the same distance two days before departure . Here's a pic of the one my friend killed.
