Advise requested from 6mm ppc and 6x47 shooters

Gentleman,

Just as yesterday I happened to purchase a 6mm PPC (Sako A1 single shot) in excellent condition: Fluted Barrel stainlesssteel 21 1/4".
1. Can I use Norma Brass or should I use 220 Russian cases?
2. what is the most common powder used and bullets wt?

Question #2

Along with this deal I purchased a Remington 40 XBR in a 6x47. It came with a extra barrel. It currently has a H-S PRECISION INC Barrel on.
1. In order to get cases do I use 6.5x47 cases and full length with a 6x47 dies? I was planning to use Lupus brass which I'm very fond of.

Any assistance will be Greatly Appreciated

The Sako is a 6PPC USA chamber. Your dies should be marked accordingly. 220 Russian is the benchrest standard, norma and sako brass are good as well. LT 32 and VV N-133 both shoot well for me somewhere in the 27 to 29gr range with Barts, Berger, or other custom pills.

Your 40x could be a 6x47 Remington. That is based on the 222 Rem Mag case necked up to 6mm. That is a completely different animal than the 6.5x47 Lapua based wildcat. Find out which one you have before buying brass and dies.

Hope that helps.

The Sako rifle has been rebarreled, so it´s impossible to say what kind of chamber it has! Could be a tight neck benchrest chamber, or a no turn.

Both of those answers above are accurate. You need to take this to a smith or do a chamber cast to know. I lay money that the 6x47 is the old 222 mag necked up (a fine round, but finicky)

If you check the bolt face on the 6x47 it should tell you small bolt face the old 6x47 .

Thank you Gentleman for you info. However, did find out that the Sako 6mm ppc is a tight neck chamber . My friend who sold it too me found some of the cases that were fired formed from Sako with 220 Russian brass. I mic the neck and it measured . 010". Plus, some of the others cases were at .012" and wouldn't chamber. As for the 6x47 I'll end up trading it or sell. Again Thank You
