I want to get into shooting sporter matches. Here is what we are shooting:
Rifle not to weigh over 9.5lbs
200yds:
8 shots prone
8 shots standing off-hand
8 shots rapid fire sitting
8 shots rapid fire prone
Our range has a max range of 600yds and probably will do most shooting from 200-300. This is just something to get started with, not looking for full-blown comp gun. Want to keep base gun around $500, sans mounts/sights.
Looks like most guys are running bolt actions. Recommendations on type of rifle and caliber. I was maybe thinking of going Savage for price/quality/upgradeability. Should I go with a standard cartridge like .223, .243, .308 or would I be better with something like 6BR, .260, 260AI, etc?
BTW.. I do my own reloading.
Thanks,
Hawk
