Advice on rear bag ear spacing

I have 2 rifles in 6 dasher, in case that matters... Both have stocks that measure .625 +/- on the flat bottom . Being new to bench shoot shooting, I am confused to what ear spacing I should get on the rear bag....my thinking is .625, but I've seen conflicting advice on "running on the stitching". This is an Edgewood bag with the slick ear material ....please give any advice or criticism that is justified... Thanks for any help...rsbhunter

Right now both guns are muzzle heavy, I'm planning on putting weight in the butt stock....

"basic t"? ballast? I presume you mean weight to help balance the rifle. What kind of stocks and front rest are you using? My experience has been that if ears are one thickness of Cordura, and I am shooting free recoil, taking sand out of the ears can hurt accuracy. Whatever you get, I would think about the actual construction of the ears, if they are not just leather, I would choose whatever applied over leather rather than just the surface material by itself. The long range benchrest guys tend to ride the stitches while some very good short range benchrest guys like to be a little above them.

My target rifles have Adjustable Bag Riders with the V-shaped profile and a narrow flat bottom. The flat measures 5/8 and I use a Protektor bag with a 1/2 slot. I like having a snag fit at the ears.

I'm using a Grizzly Bald Eagle cast slingshot , 3" front bag. Stocks are Factory Savage Target stock, and a Revolution br stock....both are same footprint....looking at either 1/2" or 5/8" ear spacing, but don't know the effect either will have over the other...Thanks, rsbhunter

Id get the 5/8 still. You can always add just a touch of sand to each ear and get it off the stitches if you get a little vertical.
