Advice on precision 6.5 Creedmoor rifle

I am looking to have a precision rifle built for the first time, strongly considering a 6.5 Creedmoor, will be used for hunting white tail deer. The one I’m currently considering would have an H-S precision synthetic stock, Remington 700 trued bolt action, Timney trigger, and a Proof carbon fiber barrel. The scope would most likely be the March manufacturer. Anyone think the rifle would be too light with the carbon fiber barrel or have any different suggestions for components?

Butch you think a Bartlein barrel would be a better choice? I want it to be light enough to walk with and one I felt with a Bartlein barrel seemed to be a little on the heavy side

The one of mine is an AG composites. Its carbon fiber but has a sendero taper cutout in a sporter front end. Most stocks will have a big forend that hold a sendero taper and that makes them heavy- opposite of what youre trying to do with a carbon barrel. Anyway, carry on back to the regularly scheduled program

Weight is your friend when it comes to accurate shooting. Personally I'd get a 2 or 2b Bartlein finished @ 24". If you don't already have the Remington action, I'd take a look at one of the less expensive customs like the Kelbly Atlas. It might not cost any more than buying the action and have a "real" truing job done on it. Just my thoughts.

I don’t have the action yet so this Atlas might be a great option. I really like those Bartlein barrels you mentioned. That very well may be the way to go, being too light can be a problem for sure. Just don’t want it so heavy that it would get aggravating to carry. Very good suggestions, thank you.

I just ordered a #4 Shilen to do a young friends Creedmore. You could go a #3. Off hand shooting is easier to get a good steady look with a little bit of barrel weight.
For hunting most of the barrel folks make good barrels.

I had built for my son a 6.5 cm using a trued rem 700, fluted #4 benchmark 26" ss bbl, bedded the old original stock which I stripped and bleached. Put a 624i scope on it. Weighed in at 7.5 lbs with the 2 lb scope. Perfectly delightfull to carry, put a smaller scope on it even better. Shoots a treat and not to expensive.

What's your expected distance for your longest anticipated shot?

Most of Eastern North Carolina is so thickly wooded you'll seldom take a shot beyond a 100 yd, So you don't want to over scope the rifle.

I mean… do whatever you want… but I'm not sure a custom built precision rifle is necessary for hunting whitetail.
