advice 513 t sights

I have a CMP 513T with rear redfield block, no front block. My neighbor's kid is shooting a little CMP and is just getting into things, but certainly low level. I do not need my 513 so I am thinking of selling it to him so he can have a real rifle (he is in the beginner stage with a little Savage or Marlin junker rifle). They are limited to iron sights and I do not have them. (Rifle now sports a Weaver T10)
I do not even know what sights are proper for the 513T (not ramp front, need globe style). If someone knows and maybe someone has a set of rear apeture and globe front for very reasonable, I am interested so I can help the kid along. I am selling the 513 to him for well under its value, but at the top of his ability to pay, so I can't spend a bunch for sights on it.

Open to ideas or help.

Not sure if he's still around, but look up Gary Fellers out of F.W. Texas. Was the go-to guy for vintage sights and such.

You just KNOW that there are sets of those laying in the drawers of guys just like us who have replaced them with a scope. They can't all wind up on Ebay asking top dollar. I wish I could help ya out. I'm pretty sure that someone can. jd

Is it D&T'd for a front sight block?

Yes, it is a HB and has the Remington d/t holes not a dovetail. It has what looks like what I call a Unertle block on the side of the receiver. (Cause that is what it looks like but I know it isn't, it is for mounting a sight.)

I am hoping someone may have a Redfield 75 or such and a matching globe for reasonable money. I did research on Ebay and those things listed are FAR beyond his money, my money or our needs. he is really a beginner, so an apeture that works with a globe at 50 ft will get him going.

No way I am going to basically give the gun away then also buy $250 sights!

If I can't find any, I will sell the gun as is to someone else with scope on it for real money, but then the kid is outta luck and I thought I might be able to help him.

A worthy cause! I'm on it. I'll see what I can turn up.

The side holes are most likely for a 620 base or something similar. The front globe mounting holes are for the base. I'd look at http://www.steveearleproducts.com/scopeblocks.html before I gave up.

dickn beat me to the suggestion of steve earle, I emailed him myself since he had nothing specific that I could find that would work to replace the original blade mount with a redfield or lyman, something I would like to do to my own 513. Jim

Thanks guys, I am appreciating the advice. I really know nothing about these sights or what it takes to get them/put them on. I never had good sights as a kid and moved to scopes.

We have one of these donated to our junior program, had a rear sight, but the front was missing. THe front sight base was there and nothing I had in my sight parts would work as they were all too high to use it for 50-100yd smallbore competition. THe problem was the sight sat up too high and you could not get enough elevation to get it on target.
I ended up making a sight block that accepted a threaded 18mm Gehman adjustable iris from aluminum that I could get low enough to give the proper elevation for 50-100yd shooting. looks weird but it worked.
IF this is for a Junior, I don't mind making another one, if your not in a hurry. Youll need to get an 18mm adjustable iris and a rear sight of some type. I believe the proper one is a redfield 75 but I think you can use a lyman 90mjt on that side mount base.
Let me get that rifle back from that Junior, and Ill let you know what I can do for you.
BTW that rifle shoots, it did really well with Wolf Match Target, better than Eley.

Thank you for your kindness. Appreciate the help. I will see what I can find out.

If you can find out what worked and tuck the info away that would be great.

I have shot it with RWS target (sucked) and old T22 which shot pretty good. I have a Weaver T10 on it intended for squirrels etc, but I have a fine 541T that outshoots it and a 40X custom shop sporter coming my way some day, so I do not need this rifle

If I can locate sights at a reasonable price AND he decides he wants the rifle (you know, stars and moon align) then I would feel comfortable taking you up on the offer if it is what I need. Until then do not invest too much energy.. Want to see how finding the sights pans out.

I would check over on rimfirecentral and us rifleteams forums. The usrifleteams guys are typically very generous when it comes to supporting juniors, offering below market prices on gear to others to get new shooters involved with the sport.
