Adjusting the AO on a Leupold BR 24X??

I recently purchased a Leupold BR 24X Scope. When I got it home, I realized it has the distance scale on both the focus (AO) ring and on the bell. When you turn the AO ring, the two sets of numbers pass by each other with no reference zero anywhere. So, how do you read the distances so that you know where the heck you are focusing? Due to a disability, I cannot look through the scope, while operating the AO ring, so I need repeatable settings, once I find the correct ones for each competition distance.

Even with the key to what the settings mean, you could not depend on them to be correct. What you need to do is work with someone who understands the finer points of setting up the scope, and working together adjust it for each distance, recording the settings as you go. If the marks do not line up, which they probably will not, you probably will need to use tape and a ballpoint to create index lines that work. Actually, I find that it is common that even experienced shooters, with no physical limitations, may not have their scopes set up exactly right. One reason for this is that is a lot of adamantly incorrect information floating about.

Slowshot: Don't feel bad about the Leupold 24x scope parralax adjustment. I had the very same type on my 24 & 36x Leupolds. Not one of Leupold's better ideas. My "numbers" were not even close to matching up.

A real puzzle when they did not include a zero reference.

As Boyd said, get someone else to help you, make temporary reference marks with masking tape & a ball point pen, then, I always replaced the tape/pen marks with tiny drops of colored paint ( model airplane in the very tiny bottles) for a more permanent reference.

Red dot = 100 yds. White = 200 yds. Blue = 300 yds. etc. etc. If you ever want to change, the "dots" easily flick off with a fingernail, leaving no permanent marks.

Thanks guys.

I am aware the range marks on scopes are not reliable. I only look at the numbers to get close to the intended setting. I usually have a friend turn the AO Ring for me as I look through the scope, moving my head to look for parallax. The only scopes I can adjust myself are side-focus scopes. I was just dumbfounded by the two sets of numbers with no reverence zero.

I have seen scopes with the tape & ink fix. I will just go with that solution.
