Adjustable butt plates

Please explain in detail the process of adjustment of a 3 way adjustable butt plate doing it by yourself ? I'm sure the process is the same...but this would be for a F TR rifle.

Thanks again

There is no "process" that I know of that is standard. What I do is take the gun and some ammo to the range and set it up there. I do it in the position I'm going to fire from most, shooting at the target I'm going to shoot most. I'm an F-Class shooter so I set it up on the ground, with the same equipment and conditions I'm going to shoot in. I first set length of pull. This is very important to be comfortable behind the gun in long strings of fire. Of course it depend on your shooting style. Straight behind the gun is generally shorter than if you shoot angled. Set it up so you are the most comfortable. Then I set the height to match my depth of chest and where the butt sits on my shoulder/body. Then I mess with cant. You can greatly increase your comfort level by canting the pad one way or the other. Keep in mind that too much cant can cause the gun to move left or right during recoil. During the entire process I fire rounds to make sure the adjustment I've made is the most comfortable while shooting. Remember we are all built differently and an adjustable butt plate is about making your gun fit you. Don't be afraid to experiment but keep in mind you can play with it all you want in a non-shooting environment but the true fitting needs to happen while you are firing and adjusting the rifle. After you set up one or two rifles you can do it quicker than it took me to explain my method. Sorry I got so long winded.

Thanks for your explanation! All the matches I've shot I never paid attention to the set up of these since I don't have one. New stock will.
If right handed...do you feel canting either direction moves the rifle further? Typically which way would you cant for a right shooter?
Thanks again

It just depends on your build and the shape of your mounting point. Try it canted both ways. I am right handed and cant the top of mine a little to the left because it fits me there. You will find the right spot easily as it will be the most comfortable.
