Bumped to Top.

FYI, I was doing a QuickLOAD simulation for a 20 VarTarg with the 32gr Hornady V-max.

The Top Five powders in terms of max velocity were, starting with highest velocity):

Nitrochemie A/S 0300
ADI AR 2207
Alliant Reloder-10x
Norma 200
Alliant Reloder- 7
Hodgdon H4227

Assumptions: 58,000 max psi, 102% load density.

Interestingly, Hodgdon H4198 was well down the list, even though this is equivalent to ADI AR 2207. I have found with other Hodgdon powders,Varget for example), it is better to use the ADI data. I spoke to QuickLOAD's creator about this and his reply was "the data Hodgdon supplies is not the best..."

One can only hope that, someday, Lapua makes VarTarg cases. If I run a similation at 63,090 psi,the rating for Lapua 6.5x47), it shows 3897 fps being available from 19.0gr powder in a 26" bbl. DO NOT try this in Remington brass!!

At that pressure level, FYI, ADI AR 2209 is the #1 rated powder.

The powders are the same its the preloaded data that is not the same. When you bring up a powder in QL there are 6 or 7 boxes under it that have numbers in them. The numbers describe the powder to the program. H110 and Win296 are the same and and so are Win231 and HP 38. AR 2206H and H4895---Even Accu 2230 and Ramshot x-Term . Its the data that is different.

Sadly I’m not sure Lapua will do that. I also wish they would. They recently stop production of 221 Fireball brass. Not sure if it is temporary or what.

For a thread resurrection from 2006, it's not too surprising the link or URL in the OP doesn't exactly take one to a powder equivalency page.

But here in 2020, there's this

Dunno about QL, I haven't purchased or used that product yet, but I'd be surprised if it hasn't been updated since the OP date in 2005, or even the Forum Boss bump date in 2006
