Dave it makes sense that more contact area provides a higher probability for a single high spot to upset the balance. I recently bedded a 22lr stock which for an unknown reason developed a lot of voids. Ugly but shoots fantastic, so I'll just refer to it as a honeycomb design to minimize contact! This my approach to bedding. The less contact the better. Meaning the rear of the recoil lug and an area down the bottom center of the action, basically the width of the pillars for round actions. Stocks do move either with changes in temperature or humidity.
YMMV
