Adding a recoil lug

I have a Time precision action that didn't have a recoil lug on it.The action was glued in but I removed it to put it in another stock. I machined a 1.250 long .100 deep flat on bottom of the action and added a .1.249x.750x.250 lug and attached it with 10/32 flat head screws. Do any of you see an issue with what I've done?

I wouldn’t add the steel lug in the cut. Just bed it the way it is in the stock and the cut will act as the recoil lug. It’s the same concept as the “XP” cut used on the bottom of benchrest rifle receivers. Maybe also make the cut another .025” deeper (.125” total depth) for more contact surface if there’s enough steel under the feed ramp to handle that.

Yes. I was saying you shouldn’t have added the piece of steel with the screws because all you did was add a connection point that could possibly move or come loose under recoil.

If you wanted to add a piece of steel as a recoil surface for the cut, I would have permanently bedded the piece of steel into the stock as a separate piece. The same way that “Tikka” rifles in your username do it

Bat and Borden both have bolt on lugs. If it's sufficiently attached it wont cause a problem. But I'll say it before Al does - make sure you only have one recoil bearing surface.

So if it's bedded with all 4 sides touching,I need to relieve the front and the sides and let the back of the lug be the only contact point ???
