action wrench and barrel vice

I have a remington 700 in pieces. Over the years, I have replaced just about everything on it and now have all the parts taken off the rifle. When assembled, it fired well, with proper headspace. I would like to get an action wrench for the 223 receiver and get a barrel vice. Looking for your experienced recommendations. I tend to purchase quality tools. Thanks

More input needed to help you.
1. Do you ever intend to remove a Remington factory installed barrel from your Remington action?
2. Has the recoil lug been drilled to hold it in place while tightening the barrel?

I decided to go with an action wrench from NSS (Northland Shooter Supply) with the taper lock recoil lug system. Then I bought their recoil lug to use on my Remington. This cured the issue of holding the lug in place for me.

I also went with the viper barrel vise. For installing barrels, all I need. You can spend a lot more on a barrel vise, but if I am just installing a barrel, nothing more is needed.

I think the question of removing a Remington factory installed barrel is very pertinent. What would be the basic -- and safe requirement for this?? jd

I have the Viper barrel vise shown above. It works well and the barrel never budged when removing the factory barrel of my Ruger RPR last summer and I had to use an obscene amount of leverage to get it loose.

For strictly doing R700, there is the Great Scott

I use a Viper vise and it's worked well, I've never had a barrel slip.

For action wrenches, I have a couple of the ebay specials (r700 and Tikka). They work fine for me to torque on a new barrel, since I tend to go a bit lighter. I also have action specific ones from Defiance, Zermatt, ARC, etc.

Same with me the Viper barrel vise works just fine. Browning and others sell a good action wrench for the Rem 700.

I have a box full of great Scott Ultimate Barrel vices that were specifically designed for removing stock barrels from Remington 700s. If anyone wants to buy one give me a PM.
