Action manufacturers cutting extended cocking helix and shortened pins for no cock on close.

@Alex Wheeler or anyone else. Alex in a previous thread discussing "Cutting for cock on close" you hit on manufacturers that have adopted cutting an extended cocking helix in the bolt with an accompanying shortened pin for .240"+ pin fall with no cock on close. I was wondering if you have a moment to list the manufacturers you know doing this? You've stated before that after initially doing a custom for you Bat has adopted this throughout their line, any other manufacturers you can add?

When building rifles I always time them. I can not stand an out of time action. But worse than an out of time action is one that wont shoot due to lack of firing pin fall. So I was left with no choice but to re cut cocking cam helix's in actions that needed that to get both firing pin fall and timing. Bat and Kelbly actions mostly. I was able to get Bat to change their cam so I no longer have to do that work to them. Kelbly's showed interest at one time but didnt go through with the change. I helped Curtis with their ignition design but things would get changed and I have no idea what they are like today. Defiance and Borden both have enough cam, so do ptg bolts and many Stillers. Thats one small part of action design, theres other areas that deal with accuracy potential as well. Action manufacturers that are eager to make the best they can, not just sell what they make really need to be supported.

Thank you for the reply. I'm very familiar with the modifications you describe and I do them for the same reasons. I haven't done much with aftermarket actions in recent times and wondered if anyone had adopted these fixes. I thought I'd ask here (you) before I called a couple of manufacturers to ask.

So Bat is the only one doing the complete job then. The others you mentioned "have enough cam" which I take enough is there to modify the pin to make it all work. I have a couple of projects that the Bumblebee and Vampire would be good for and the other light option would be Defiance Anti. I'll lean towards Bat for the work they've done and hopefully I won't have to do much to them to make me happy.

Thank you again for the response, It'll save me some time.

You cant expect anything right out of the box, fine tuning will always be needed to get things as good as possible. But thats a lot better than setting up to cut a helix on the mill. The Bat vr,hr, vampire, and bumblebee will usually time up without doing a thing but like I said I still tweak things in the ignition. Defiance and Borden are also good options for you. They all have their own areas that I feel need attention but none of them need the total rework.
