Accurate Load .308 Win 500 yds Benchrest?

Hi all, this is my first post. My Accuracy International in .308 Win is getting too heavy for me to use for long-range hunting. It was fine when I was a youngster but now at age 75 I have taken to benchrest. The rifle weighs in at 26.5 lbs. Now I'll get to the point of my post... I want to use the rifle at 500 yds and I am looking for a good accurate load. My current load is 45.2g of ADI 2206H with 180g Acupoints - tables estimate a MV of 2450 but that was my Sambar deer hunting load. Haven't tried it at the range yet but I feel sure there are better target loads I could try.

If the idea is score or group at 500, but benchrest rather than F-Class or F-T/R, then I would consider the bullet to be your first issue for improvement. Either way, you will want to shoot a good quality match bullet.

I am not familiar with 180 grain Acupoints, but to start out without doing all the leg work, you may want to just try a box of Federal match ammo in your caliber just to baseline yourself and then decide if you want to copy that load or improve it.

It is often difficult to guess what is available in Oz, but something along the lines of a Sierra Match King Bullet from 168 to 180 should be the best bet. You are also likely to find the Berger equivalent match bullet lines with their 185 Juggernaught or maybe the Lapua with Scenars?
