Accurate factory ammo

So I have 6BRs, Dashers, and 6.5x47s that I load for. I’m looking for a caliber and cartridge that is known for having accurate factory ammo, for times when I just can’t get ammo loaded.

I’m just looking for a fairly accurate alternative, I know my hand loads will be better.

Forum Boss: NOT necessarily. See my post below about Lapua 6mmBR ammo tested in Eliseo Tubegun.

I have shot 6 creedmoor and 6.5 creedmoor a couple times and saw good results with Hornady and Prime Ammo.

Any Thoughts and thanks for your time

I suppose 308 ammo is the most readily available as well...thanks for mentioning I guess I hadn’t really thought that direction.

Couple of years ago when fooling with the 6.5 Creedmoor
and there was no time to load, I'd have a case of Hornady
140 ELD-M's to draw from. Won a few short course speed
steel matches with the stuff. For the RRA full bull varmint,
IMI 77gr SMK's brown box mil ammo.

Ditto on the FGMM in 308........if you can find it!......at a reasonable price? These are not good times for those that don’t reload or were unprepared for the shortage.
I used to smile when my reloads were saving me 20-50 cents a shell over buying factory ammo. Now, I really smile!

I've been fairly impressed with the accuracy of Hornady #81500 140gr ELD-M for 6.5mm Creedmoor factory ammo. Have shot a few dozen in a Savage 12 LRP 6.5CM. Consistent seating depths, primer depths, ignition, and fairly tight groups. Though haven't done chrono validation of velocities, a target-based SilverMountain setup has shown velocities at 200yds with modest spread.

If you can afford it, the Lapua 6mmBR ammo is extraordinarily accurate in a good gun. So accurate in fact, that we were not able to surpass it in an Eliseo Tubegun with our very best handloads (powder measured to the kernel, sorted bullets etc.).

100-Yard, 5-Shot Group
Lapua 105gr Scenar Factory Ammo

More groups, but with 90gr Lapua Factory 6mmBR ammo:

Mind you, this is an across-the-course rifle, NOT a pure benchrest gun, so those groups are all the more impressive...

I doubt if you'll find much factory ammo that can put three shots in the low ones and five shots in the high ones.

You've had several good suggestions but it always come down to "purpose and budget". You didn't state the distance you were shooting or the amount you were willing to spend on a box of ammunition. I know that in today's market that "amount" is a moving target but you get the gist of the question.

I have had excellent results with 130gr OTM 6.5cm Prime ammo. I know that they make 6cm (and other calibers) too but have not got my hands on any. Best part is pre covid you could find it for around $1.10 a round

Generally from 600-1000 yard. Steel and paper. I have shot 6cm, 6.5cm, and 308. From my limited experience with them it seemed like 6 creed was the most accurate and also easily manageable recoil. Both Prime and Hornady ammo I shot with it was very good.
However, if 308 was a little easier on my old shoulder I would probably just do that and move on. So much loaded ammo to choose from, and seems the most available.
I suppose im Looking for best accuracy to money ratio :) if I’m going to drop to much it starts to be a wash with the time spent loading....?
thanks for all your thoughts on this.

Put a Rad Recoil pad on your 308 and you wont be botherd by the recoil..you
could put a break on the barrel as well if needed.....Its what I use for a practice gun..but
i do twist my own.
