accurate calibers

hi guys,i'm trying to find actual measurements on the differences in accuracy of different calibre's;e.g. 7mm rem mag over 7mm swum etc.this is for a big and little calibre long range guns. does the difference between all calibers need a micrometer to separate them so if i'm not shooting for medals in the real world will it make any difference or out at a 1k it will mean the difference between a hit or a miss, many thanks mike

Mike, Intresting first post from down under.
Im little confused at what your asking ? What is a big and little? What type of shooting are you doing in Australia? For the medals that is... Or since you said "hit or miss" in that long sentance.... is it hunting?
Wowser im confused!

Small caliber I would go with a 6 Dasher. It is beginning to dominate
1,000 yd matches. At the 600 yd. nationals, 9 of the top 10 spots
were Dashers or BR's. I believe the only other gun to make the
top 10 was one WSM.

Large Caliber--I would go with a 7 mm or 300 WSM or SAUM

Go with the Dasher -- They are so pleasant and cheaper to shoot.
Plus so accurate!

sorrt about the confusion,i currently have a 7mm rem mag and 22/250,both got luppys and set up for long distance shooting.(big and little). i don't shoot for medals only hunt. i'm after moa of cartridges to compare as i can get drop/drift of all rounds but not accuracy charts.don't want to get a hard hitting flat shooting caliber that won't group.but is the won't group only with a micrometer when shooting for medals but still is a good long range gun. e.g. i hate the 308(same ballistics as 303 british) but every target shooter recommends it.i'd trade off a bit of medal winning accuracy to get faster/flatter but only to a point, still gotta hit em. cheers mike

I'm a hunter too. Here's my load for 7mag, 60gr.imr 4350, 162 Amax.
I put stoney Point knobs on lupe and engraved the top for fast adjustments. Best I can do for you, good hunting. Mike

You said caliber, but I think you really mean round. I started loading my own ammo in 1965 and in that time I have loaded ammo for for to many different round to rember right now. I have come to the conclusion that while there is a small difference in inhearent accuracy, the rifle is far more important than the round.

I use a 7mm Rem Mag shooting 168 Berger hunting bullets this 8 lb rifle with scope, has 4.5 x 14 leupold and has been shooting 3shots in 3" @500yds. I feel it is a 700yd rifle for big game (deer, elk, antelope).

My rifle is a custom that I built with a match barrel, custom ground reamer. Ammo is loaded on Redding Comp. Dies, Brass is annealed and neck turned, all match prepped. I have chronographed my rifle at 3050 ft/sec using H1000 powder. I have also used IMR 4350 with 160 gr bullets in other 7mm mags with good success. I just shot a bull moose in Colorado in Oct with my 7 mag. My hunting buddy used a similar rifle in 7 mag and killed a bull moose in Wyoming at 512 yds, one shot and it dropped in it's tracks using the Berger hunting bullet.
