I have found the accurate barrel life calculator found on this site very helpful in the past. I have used the version employing the Excel spreadsheet found on this site. However, when I went to use it today, I discovered that one of the variables in the Excel spreadsheet version used in the calculations has been eliminated—the shot frequency value or number of seconds between shots. One new version that doesn’t use Excel is apparently a modification by Pierre Vanderwalt. On that version, rather than allowing the user to specify the number of seconds between shots, it displays a “recommended shot rate” which cannot be overridden. This seems like an unfortunate omission. In the older Excel version, I noticed a large difference in the barrel life result obtained between, say, 10 seconds between shots and 60 seconds. Clearly, rapid shooting, with attendant barrel heating, contributes substantially to decreased accurate barrel life.
Anyone care to comment on this? Or point me to a version that employs shot frequency as an input variable?
