Accuracy international axmc initial range report

Took delivery of my Accuracy International AXMC in 300 WM yesterday. Had to get it on paper asap!
It strikes me as a very well made gun! It is larger than I thought however.
The stock trigger is surprisingly crisp and I found not at all heavy ( about 3.5 lbs or so). Thd stock muzzle break is fine. In fact due to the weight and break I'd call it very mild shooting. In fact my Remington 700 pss in .308 kicks more.
I topped it off with a 5x20 SWFA SSHD scope ( until I can get another one)
Shot five round group at 100 yards and obtained just under 1 MOA. Not bad for a first strike before the barrel is broken in. Scope is not exactly zeroed, just shooting for group.
I really like the overall craftsmanship, the fact that it can fold for easy transport, and can in fact be broken down to a point that if could fit in a very small scale for travel ( truck, boat back of private aircraft etc.)
Was it worth the $6850 sale price? Yes, and I'd do it again and again, not one ounce of buyer remorse. I'd highly recommend anyone that has an interest in one to go get it while they are available.

That group looks to be about 3/4 inch or so. Gonna be a shooter! Congrats on a very nice rifle. :D:D:cool:

Paul
Thanks, I sure like it so far. I'm sure the gun can do better, any movement is me and I'm just shooting 180gr federal over the counter ammo, not match. Also I'm not used to the gun yet

I've gotta agree Paul, that group looks closer to 0.75. Congratulations Dan, fine rifle you have there and I'm sure it will shoot better as you get used to the trigger and recoil. Enjoy...

You guys got me to thinking so I measured it again. From center to center the spread is just under 5/8" . I'm overjoyed so far.

I hope you handload cause 300winmag match ammo is not cheap.
I reload, but not 300 am yet. Looks like I will. I bought 250 rounds to get me started. I can reload that brass. Not sure yet I'll stay with 300wm, other barrels are available such as 300 psc, 300 norma etc..

Actually the 300 Norma will need a different bolt body, the 300 PRC will use your existing bolt. Several shooters I know are going the 300 PRC route and have been very happy with their results.

Thanks, good info. Not in a rush anyway, having a good time with the 300 WM at the moment.

Right now I have two 300winmag's. One hunting rifle and one target/range rifle (24" and 26" barrels with 10" twist), and I have zero desires to rebarrel them for the modern 30 cal magnums.

Reloading for a belted magnum is no different than any other cartridge. Bump the shoulder 2 thou and it will last as long as non belted cases.

I too am using brass from factory ammo. In the target rifle I'm using F.C. brass from their FGMM ammo and am very happy with it. Surprisingly it has very consistent H2O capacity, weight and neck thickness.

With the 11" twist on your AXMC, when handloading I would start with the Berger 200.20x, H-1000, Viht.N-165, N-560. Even H-4831 has worked good in mine with 208amax.
If you try heavier than 200 gr, I find Retumbo to work really well, but with lighter bullets it's too compressed and under heavy compression it spikes in pressure quickly.

Would of been nicer if AI chose a 10" or 9" twist in the 300winmag. Give you more choice for loading heavy bullets.

Thanks, good to know!

Hmmm? Where you getting 11 twist from? Just curious.

If it’s a US built gun it should have our barrel on it. We don’t make AI any 11 twist barrels.

What stamping/markings are on the barrel? Does it have British proof marks on it? If not....then I doubt 11 twist.

From the OP’s original post and only have a couple of shots of the rifle I’m going to say not a 11 twist.

Sweet rifle by the way!!!!!

I'm glad you gents brought this up. I just checked and indeed it's a 1x10 twist. ( indicated by moving my cleaning rod down the barrel, one turn on 10 inches). I don't see it indicated on the barrel anywhere, but I didn't remove the barrel for inspection.
