? about strange powder load

I suppose we think we have seen it all, but not sure now! I bought the 22-250 a.i. and 264 loaded rounds came with it. The plastic cases were all labeled 41.7 H 414 with 210 M primer, Lapua case and 60 grn h.pt. Hornady flat base bullet. I never shoot anyones loads except close knowledgeable friends' loads. Anyway, I pulled down several rounds and yes, the wts were very close to the 41.7! However, approx 36 grns of the wt certainly appeared to be H414. The other 5-6 grns were a very small stick powder!? Yes, I gold/panned long enough to break two of these down to get accurate wts for you! Has anyone ever heard of a factory powder that contained both stick of some kind and ball powder?! Thanks, Tom P.S. The bullets were only seated .055" into the cases!

I have heard of factory ammo being loaded with blended powders to attain the pressure curve the ammo mfg is trying to achieve. However, mixing canister powders for the handloader is a recipe for disaster. Please don't shoot those rounds!

+1 Dump the powder, and stick to your conviction of NOT shooting someone else's reloads. JME. WD

I got some umc Remington 22-250 factory shells and they wouldn't shoot worth a crap. they were jumping 95 thousands so I pulled some of the bullets and reseated them then they shot okay but when I looked at the powder there was 4 different kinds and as I have reloaded for over 50 years I know what I am talking about. I called the factory and some woman said that they use different powders in there shells. I said in the same box? no answer so I sent them back to factory and they called to say that they were safe and they would send them back and I said no thanks but they did send me 2 coupons to get 2 free boxes of new ammo. I will give them away for xmas.

I shot my 25-06 handloading one day and the BANG was VERY LOUD and bolt lift was STIFF. All 5 had blown primers and the boss muzzel break/tuner was belled/egged!!! I went home and pulled bullets to discover balls and sticks! My powder was hodgdon. I called and was advised that hodgdon made no such powder...I had mixed two powders. A very important lesson...only ONE powder on the bench during loading! Your cases had mixed powder...intentional or by accident. Call the seller and ask politely as some reloaders mix on purpose...
