about mirage

buddy and I were shooting 300yds last week, we both have Sightron S III his the new 10x50x60 and mine the 8x32x56, there was quite some mirage so we managed to do some shooting, to our surprise we got are 223's out both have the Mueller 8x32x44 and he shot first and said there is no mirage with these scopes and put my scope on the bench and noticed the same thing no mirage, so during the week he is shopping for a new scope for one of his rifles, i said why don't you get another SIII, he flat out said, he will never buy another Sightron, i did not have my Leupolds with me to see if the mirage would be in the Leupolds., but is there any explanation why the Mueller did not have any mirage.

Need some more information. For instance, at what power were the scopes set? What were the scopes focused on? (I presume the target, but need to be sure.) Was the mirage occurring between you and the target or was the mirage beyond the target?

Barrel heat has a way of making the best scopes all squiggly.

The Mueller scope can't discern the mirage because its optics are poor. The boil is an important indicator for wind speed. Just looked for the referenc in Modern Highpower Competition. R. Constantine says, "The mirage is wind you can see."

yikes, if there is mirage visible (and it's not the barrel), the last thing I want to do is eliminate it by moving to a scope that can't resolve it.
