A1680 in 222

In this time of scarcity which I fear may last for quite a while, I realize I have two pounds of 1680 remaining from when I was playing with 300 BLK a few years ago. Thinking I should see if it has any applications I might use it for, I notice Nosler has data for 34-35 grain bullets in the 222 with 1680. Hmm, I wouldn't have expected that but they got it. And Midway has 34 grain Dogtown bullets in stock.

Might be worthwhile to work up a load, even though I think 34 grains might be a bit light for our stout woodchucks around here. It may come to pass that I use up my H322 and Benchmark this summer and can't get more.

Any thoughts, advice, experience? Does this sound like a good idea?

edit to add; I thought I was posting in the 22 caliber forum. Oh well I'll leave it here for now.

Thank you for that! I downloaded and saved it. There is 1680 data for 45, 50 and 55 grain bullets. Good info. I guess I kind of thought 1680 as too fast for any rifle cartridges beyond 22 Hornet.

For what it may be worth sir, I have used.....and still use .....A1680.... in my T/C .223 bolt action rifle with consistent 1 MOA and better. I am too old to chase smaller groups for this rifle with the grain bullet I use and the distance I shoot it. It has got the job done for many a year....period. My load is as follows....

Rem brass....mostly
19.0 gr A1680
55 gr Hornady SP SX
WSR primer
2.210 COAL

First post here..........I was gonna send a link for older pdf, but looks like you have it now. When I first started to reload, my mentor loaned me a few manuals and .....AA1680.... was then, still listed. After returning the manuals, I later wished I had purchased the same ones for myself. I still had my "recipes", but wanted the manual ( my mentor had loaned me) years later. I finally found the pdf online. Cheers!

If I ran across some 4198, I'd buy that!

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I had never looked for 1680 on a burn rate chart. Since it has been recommended for certain magnum handgun cartridges I just assumed it was not a suitable rifle powder for my application. I guess it pays to check with the old timers! :) I was a 222 shooter 40-some years ago, but I was not a reloader at that time.
