Hello,
Some years ago, I thought I had purchased the ultimate in varmint rifles; A Model 70 single shot action, an unfired (?) Hart 1-12 inch barrel in .244, .750 at the muzzle, chambered with a tight neck; in a McMillan HBR stock. On paper it looked perfect. It wasn't. After a long time experimenting, I gave up and turned it over to Charley Robertson of Score HI gunsmithing in Albuquerque. His report on the quality of the gunsmithing of this weapon cannot be repeated on this site. In essence this weapon was assembled to be sold to some sucker, not shot! Charley performed a lot of work on the weapon, the most important was setting back the barrel and rechambering and crowning PROPERLY.
I have taken it to the range just once and it would appear the limitation on this weapon with a NightForce atop it, is ME. With a trip coming up to Whittington, I shall be working on reloading for several weapons but really want to develop the proper loads for this true varmint rifle. I already know this barrel doesn't like anything heavier than 80 grains. I have a multitude of light 6mm bullets and if anyone on this site had experience with this caliber with these specs, I would appreciate your experience.
Thank you in advance,
WW
