A theoretical Shot marker question

Bat Rastard

If you aligned 2 Shot Markers, 1 at 100yds, and the other at 200, theoretically it would give you group sizes at both distances, from the same shots. Correct?
The near target frame would have no backer or target. Only the Shot Marker on the target frame to register the shots as they pass through.
Thoughts?

So using the 200 yd as the aiming point? just sending rounds though the first frame with now backer/target? you would see the shots but they would be at differing POI's pending each yard line. In theory would be a good way to do it but not a true aim vs poi on the one to other
X at 200 may not be the x at 200 but I am sure you figured that

be cool to see the drop difference. Albeit not much .

It would be very interesting to see if the group shape and dimensions at distance is directly proportional to the closer one. Many of us like to believe they are. I have a hunch my groups grow >disproportionally< to distance. My 1/2" group at 100 yds is typically larger than 2 1/2" at 500 yds. Then there's the old thought that bullets "go to sleep" and stabilize past 100 yds yielding proportionally smaller targets. Not buying it! But the described test could lend some fact to legend.

To the OP: Yes you can....

This type of testing has been done by Brian Litz. Groups remained the same proportionally as the distances increased. This will remain true until the bullet becomes unstable or due to variations in the wind.

Edit: Litz used paper targets at different ranges, so a bullet passed through several paper targets. I think they were 100, 200 and 300 yard targets.

If I were doing this I’d put a small fixed aim point on the berm. All empty target frames to the berm, - two, three, or however many.

Just account for the path of the bullet if going long, and being able to see through each one without a face lets you know that nothing has shifted or is being struck all the way down. A spotter can confirm the centering of bullet trace through frame.
