A shot to put a smile on my face!

Worked until lunchtime, grabbed a power nap and hit the fields today. Just got to my hide with the wind in my face when this old boy wanted to play peek-a-boo in the long grass with me. he made the fatal mistake of staying up to long and the .20-.223AI and 39 gr. Sierra BK made short work of him, 8.9 lb., from 90 yards.

Nothing showed up in the next 45 minutes so I shifted about 75 yards to a position to see an area that I missed one at last week. Wasn't there long when this 9.36 lb. Boar showed up from a neighboring burrow. 226 yards and I heard the BK find it's mark.

I waited for a while and no more shows so I decided to drive to an adjacent road instead of cross 3 fences and a stream to check him out! Headed up the road after the photo op to another farm. Last week I was shamed into carrying a handgun on top of all the other equipment and it paid off. I was almost at my bench and a pup stands up at 51 yards. It wasn't a challenge with the rifle so out comes the S&W 617 with a 3X Burris EER on top and loaded with CCI Subsonic HP's. I was standing and resting it in my BogPod with it looking pretty small in the scope and crosshairs covering the majority of it. When the trigger broke I thought I saw the dust flying off it and heard the sound of a hit. I setup and manned the bench for a bit before I couldn't take it anymore then walked to check it out. Then came the big grin with it crumpled up where I shot!

I then finished a short walk and this scruffy old Boar offered a shot with the .20-.223AI from a standing position/BogPod shot at 105 yards.

I wrapped it up with #65 down for the season!

Very nice. I want to go out tomorrow but I best be getting busy reloading or I'm not going to have enough ammo come July for my annual prairie dog shoot in Wyoming. :(

I wish we had a critter like that down south. A we have a stinkin hogs and feral cats.

You got nutria... and they are just beggin' for a "Coup de Gras".

Nutria...the little I've seen of hunting them is in swamps where LARGE snakes and alligators live and eat things. No thank you...I've dodged a few snakes in the fields I hunt. Got 2 large ones yesterday and will post pics tomorrow.

The other day when folding up my portable bench I was bitten by a Garter Snake! I had left it folded up and leaning against a fence row the last time out. It was there for the entire 1 1/2-2 hour hunt right above my crotch! :o. When I folded the bench up I must have pinched it and it bit my finger down in the web and drew blood. I played/instigated it for a while and it continued to bite my fingers but couldn't get through the calused parts. ;D I released it in the fence row to bite me another day. ;)
