A POF new rifle. Need load data. (5.56 NATO chamber)

I have a new POF rifle . Barrel is 18" and a 1-8 twist, chamber is 5.56 NATO. I will us it for coyotes. Hornady 53 vmax and as a single shot LR with 69-80 grainers. Please give some help.

Just a discussion about asking for and giving load information on these and other forums. For the sake of your eyes and other parts it is best to never trust a load posted on the net, learning about your particular barrel etc is best started with a lighter known safe charge. Been loading since '76 and I never take a guess or start at the high end with a new rig I have put together or any used/new I came in possession of. NEVER.

This is your safest method, buy a couple of good reloading manuals and work up loads for your specific rig. Not trying to be smart, trying to give the best information to any individual wanting a starting point for their 'new rig'!

why would you get a 5.56 chamber for precision shooting ??
there is no reason to single load 69-77...all can be mag length.
the 80 is another story.
sounds like you should have done more homework prior to purchasing

Most AR manufactures will not make a barrel in .223rem because of all the 5.56 out there. Most of the ones who make “.223rem “ barrels are in fact 5.56. Just ask Ruger.

NOT QUITE SO YOUNG MAN.
MOST not all ar's have 5.56 chambers when sold with common bbls.
most match ar's or custom ar's have custom 223 chambers.
do not compare apples( 16" common ar's ) with oranges( match /target rifles with 223 chambers).

i would not quote ruger as an ar authority.

You order a "match" upper they know you are not an idiot and will not run 5.56 in your upper. Ruger is not known for AR's but they made a boat load of mini14s claiming they are 223 but they are clearly 5.56. You buy a off the rack AR with a 223 chamber you will most likely find a chamber more closely matching the 5.56 than 223.

Thank you for all of the input. The barrel is marked 5.56 1-8. POF uses Rockcreek barrels and melonites them after all metal cutting. I am using a suppressor. I have had other ar's, all having 223 chambers. This is the first 5.56 chamber. My main question is does brass and primer make a huge difference. The POF that I decided to buy is piston driven. The gas key has 3 positions. Unsuppressed, suppressed, and single shot or bolt action as POF puts it. I plan on running v max 55 grainer crimped for coyotes, and vld bullets match stile running close to 5 thou off the lands for shooting steel at 6-800 yards in the bolt action configuration. I am not looking for pacific load data. Just some in site. Thanks to all.

For simplicity sake the only difference between the .223 and 5.56 is the throat length, "IF" SAAMI guidelines are used. "BUT" I have a factory Savage bolt action .223 and its throat is longer than either of my two AR15 rifles.

And "YES" military chambers are longer in headspace and chamber diameter "BUT" the major difference is throat length.

All the load data you need.

Please note that .223 load data chamber pressure will be approximately 8,000 psi "LOWER" when fired in the longer throated 5.56 chambers. Meaning there are reloading manuals with two different sets of loading data, and the Hodgdon's website load data is for short throated .223 rifles and NOT the AR15 rifle. ;)

Took the rifle out today. A little better than .75 moa with 55 grain v max at 3140 fps. I was getting double taps though. 2 rounds would go of after pulling the trigger once. What is the best primer and brass to use to keep from double taps.

The only time I've had "double taps" was when my trigger wasn't adjusted right. What primers are you using? I run 205ms in mine with no problems.

Shot some HPR hyperclean 55 and 75 grain. I was reading that if u don't use a primer with a really hard cup. In a ar that this can happen.

I have never had the problem before. My ar experience is fairly limited but I have never had that happen. I have also never shot a factory round through any of my ars. Sorry for not being able to help.

not holding the trigger all the way back, lets it reset and go off......or a bad trigger.
