A Mini Air Show ??

Heard the distinct sounds of Helicopters just a few minutes ago.
Initially it sounded like Huey's. Then the house started shaking.
Eight Chinooks in formation and close. I could almost see the
rivets !! Looks like they were headed to Erie's airport. We have
the 112th Infantry Regiment here in Erie, and they just came back
from a training deployment. Takes me back to my 11C10 day's

Back in my knee dragging motorcycle rips through the mnts...... fighter jets were making practice strafing runs leading up to the gulf war.

Uhhh, they were below in the valley's.... they'd see me and never fail to come back with a "Mav" pass, and a tip of the wing.

Oh yeah and there really ARE black helicopters,I've had the "performance awards" to prove it....haha.

M29A1-81mm
Trained on that in AIT, then right to the M252 at my 1st assignment. When I was in a tank battalion we were getting the new 120's as I was PCS'ing so never got to play with those.

They flew over my place in North East yesterday late afternoon. Barely over the trees and shook everything around pretty good.

Did you get a count ?? My neighbor said there were 10. I only counted
eight, but by the time I got outside, I could have missed the lead ones.
With all the combined training the past several weeks, I wonder if they
were the Chinooks stationed at Fort Drum New York's 10th Mountain
Division ??

When i was a kid growing up outside Hagerstown, MD. we used to love watching the new A10s coming off the assembly line & being put through their paces!!

I like the sounds but not for days on end 24/7 when our beloved president is at his home in Delaware. Could probably go on a nice overseas hunt with what they burn in fuel Friday to Sunday.

Chinooks fly over my house every day and many times at altitudes of 1500 feet or less. My house is about 2 miles from Selfridge Air Force Base. Often they fly in threes, fours or fives. Shakes the whole damn house and even though I know exactly what it is, I run to the patio sliding door every time because they are just so cool. Still hard to imagine they are still the fastest helicopter we have in our military.

Speed has changed. My son is an Engineer at Ameri-Drives. He worked
on a special testing stand to hold the turbine engine/engines for the new
Sikorsky-Boeing fast attack. Instead of a side rotor, It has a twin counter
rotating rotor with pusher prop. Yeah, the Chinook steps along at 315 km/h, the new Sikorsky Defiant has
hit 238 mph in tested with a planned cruise speed of 290 mph.

Kenny....Early last year at Anderson Creek and facing the 400 yard
line, we watched two A-10's a few miles out doing banking and turns
for about 15 minutes !! Where are they flying out of in that area ??

If you wish to know more about those flying things there is an Military only icon. I see a lot of traffic between Ft. Drum and VT Army and Air Guard, those F-35's are wicked.

I’m right on the other side of the mountain from there, near Thurmont. I can usually tell when a president is heading to Camp David, two or three helicopters fly right over the house. Here lately I walk outside and stick up my middle finger. LOL

Closest base that i know of for A10s is the MD Air National Guard out of Annapolis, MD.

Had a handful of Harrier "jump" jets taking off near a road I was on, some decades back. As the end of the runway was near the road, and the route they took made a right-hook over that road, it was ear-bustingly loud. Just as I was passing, of course. (What are the odds?) The car was shaking, with those jets directed down at the road. That was "the sound of freedom," it was. Damn.

Reminds me of the time in the 1980s when a high-speed run of a F/A-18 (or similar) was happening right over the ridge where I was driving. Just at the moment I crested the ridge on the road, this jet came zooming around the ridge at just above tree-top level, diving down into the valley ahead. Of course, the pressure wave from that high-speed pass nearly flung me off my (admittedly small 400cc) motorcycle. "~Mach 1 with his hair on fire," more or less. Loud, loud, loud. I could've done without that surprise, that morning. Took a minute for the pulse to come back to normal, after that.

I lived in the foothills overlooking White Sands and Holloman Airforce Base. The sonic booms would shake the house. Now I occasionally see Ospreys flying low through the mountain valleys.

I have'nt seen them yet this year but, Erie international is a favorite
touch and go landing port. Them C-130's come in real low and make
some noise. Buddy of mine that flew out of the Pittsburgh Air Guard
in flight fuelers always called it a beach run. He said they flew low to
see the beach babes on Presque Isle. Airport and beach are on the
same flight path....LOL
