A little Washington Whitetail hunt

My youngest son and I enjoyed a great father-son hunt over the weekend. He's the fourth generation of our family to use the .30-06 Model of 1917 rifle, now somewhat updated. That old rifle and my nearly 20 year old Krieger barreled .308 Win/Rem 700 both worked very well with my Nosler 165 grain handloads. We thoroughly enjoyed the hunt. Here's a few photos:

I truly wasn't interested in antler size this year, and took a small 3x3 after watching several deer over a period of several hours from the blind. He dropped at the shot. Yes, I know he looks like a spike in this photo, but he's a little 3x3...

M700,
Congrats on such a memorable hunt you will have with you for ever, I treasure all my hunting, good or bad with my family. The worse day of hunting we ever had was a great day, again congrats to the both of you.
Wayne.

P.S what part of Washington? I will be hunting in the S.E tip of the state for late white tail muzzle loader with my youngest son (17) thanksgiving day :)

THE ARE ALL TROPHYS , PERIOD. You did good. I waited till my son was of age and he decided the night before he didnt want to go.It broke my heart. He chose the pot lifestyle over hunting. He is better now and fishes alot, but he cant own a gun.So tresure every single second he commands you attention!

What beautiful scenery and a great way to spend time with your son. Spend all the time you can doing things like that. I have wished many times i had a father growing up to spend time out doors together. Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks for the kind comments guys. It was another great father-son hunt. We've done a lot of hunting and fishing trips over the years, and I'm really going to miss him when he decides it's time to move out... Coming sometime in the next few years, doggone it.

I think he's likely taking that old .30-06 with him when he goes, which I'm sort of pleased about and sort of irritated about. I'll get over it, knowing he's the fourth generation of our family to use it. Offered to buy him a new rifle, but he likes that old warhorse.

Good job sir an I know what you mean about missing him when he moves on. My sons have been hunting since the were 7 years old . Now they have both graduated college one lives in MISS. the other in TENN. An I live in Md. but we still get to do a little hunting for deer.Oldest is 27 the youngest is24. So enjoy all you can I know that I do.
