A little Sunday morning reading.

I’m guessing the world is not flat guys ran into some serious issues back in the day. I think this might rank right up there. Very interesting.

Thanks, that was a very good Sunday morning read!
I have some 6.5Creedmoor rounds loaded to try with Berger’s suggested jump test. I was second guessing myself on the longer jumps they use, maybe not now after reading this.

great read, thanks for posting it

I have a .223 that is a odd duck. The 80gn Berger likes a .075 jump, yet the 80 SMK shoots best on or in the lands. Just the opposite of what conventional wisdom would suggest

I just ordered 2 K Nosler custom competitions for my .260 rem because past experience has showed me they are very tolerant when it comes to the jump. The ones I have shot in the past tended to prefer a moderate jump over being jammed. Very cost effective also. SMK's tend to be pretty jump tolerant as well.

Offtopic as bit but seems to me there are more than one powder/jump combinations that shoot well but if you change one you will need to adjust the other for optimum performance. Same with the primer, change brands and you need to tweak the powder charge up or down a tenth or two but there always seems to be more than one way to skin a chicken as my old buddy Porkchop says

I know Erik posts here. If you have not seen his youtube channel I highly recommend it. This is his take.

Very interesting, really. I understand, I think, what he is trying to pass on.
Overall, 10,000 foot view, imho, Eric is chasing whatever is causing less accuracy bbl wise. He says the bbl has worn, therefore wear is present, and he is adjusting accordingly.
He establishes a starting point then lets the groups tell him seating depth. Two inna row, if blessed with three, truly golden. Then if wear sez it's time to adjust, he adjusts beyond, adding to his starting point until the bbl says "I Like".
My take away is that a measured distance twixt the starting point and his lands are noise to be ignored - as it is less accurately measured. He "listens" to what the target tells him.
Hmmm another synopsis is that the oal to ogive using a Sinclair nut on up to fancier equipment is his zero and after that he is at "Node plus _____ ".
I think i "get it". Eric pls correct if not.

I am going to give Erik's method a try, hard to argue with someone that has had his success. I just did a powder load test on my .260 with the bullets seated .025 off jam. So earlier I seated 5 each at .019, .022, .025, .028, and .031 to see if I can find a node. At the .025 jump I could keep a 20 round group inside a MOA at 300 with .6 MOA in group height. POI was almost identical over a .3 gn spread in charge. It will be nice if the .022 and .028 groups shoot as well if not better
