I got tired of my little pin punches being bent, broken, missing or all of the above. The good ones (Starrett, the one which are missing
) are not available locally and the ones from Lowes are no good for what I use them for. Plus, the 1/16” punches no matter the brand always seem too big and I wind up polishing them down to about .060” before they can be used. I do have assorted small pin stock so at lunch today I knocked this out without spending a whole lot of time. I could have made it nicer with knurling, grooves maybe but if I did that it would quickly disappear! Just made from 5/16" stock I think it's 12L14.
My intention is to use this as a punch for small pins with the appropriate size pin stock or even a cut-off portion of one of those bent pin punches I mentioned above but I suppose the more accurate term is a pin vice. I just copied the dimensions of the shaft end on a Dremel. Its 40 t.p.i. and if I remember correctly like .280” dia. It’ll take any Dremel collet, the one in the pic is 1/16” or even the little three jaw chuck.
Anyway, as my wife is known to say...”Nothing better to do?”
