A little info on the CBTO length on the 6.5x47 Lapua please?

I'm thinking of rebarreling a 700 SA to a 6.5x47L for hunting with standard hunting bullets out to a maximum of 300 yards. )just because I wanna, LOL).

Finding a rifle here in the cornfields of IN in this caliber and an owner of one has about the same odds as shooting a 400lb whitetail.

While the COAL is shown as 2.795", is this based on the normally lengthy long range bullets and has the lands further back? OR......what?

I might be over thinking this but a NBT 120 grain seated to 2.795" COAL computes to a .265" seating depth........but with a different type of ogive ..........where does that place it from the lands, roughly?

I'm totally in the dark on anything created for shooting long range bullets and will probably remain so after 2/3 of a century, so ........your help would be most appreciated.

God Bless
Steve

its all in what reamer you have. your questions cant be answered without a chambered barrel in hand. that being said if you want to hit a specific OAL, such as a max magazine length, and know the bullet you want to shoot someone can tell you what length freebore you need to get to put your bullet in the right spot in the neck

I have a couple 6.5x47s. I shoot a lot of Sierra 120 and 123s. I also shoot Berger 130s and Norma 130 Golden target.
When I want a barrel chambered, I load a dummy round with the bullet I want to shoot set in the brass where I want it to be and send it to my smith. He cuts the chamber for that round.
Pick your bullet.;)
I try to be knowledgeable but my smith is the expert. You might want to call Bob Green. He’s one of the best smiths out there and a heck of a nice guy. He’ll set you up right.

Double down on Bob Green. He built my 1000 yd 6.5 x 47 set it up for 142 SMK. He did his usual great job. Had a friend ask me how it shot closer so I went last week and shot two 500 yard groups, both less than 1 inch.

Thanks. Just curious if anyone had loaded a 120 gr Ballistic tip and how it came out compared to the standard chamber COAL and lands in relationship to the lands and what COAL it ended up being.

No point in making it down to the nat's butt IMHO for hunting shorter ranges but where the NBT set in the chamber, as is, is of interest.

@skeetlee chambered two 16.5” 6.5x47L barrels for me and both shot as good as any match rifle I’ve owned. I was getting 2750fps with a 123 amax. Killed everything from a chicken to a Gemsbok with it. I’ll look to see if I can find data but Lee’s reamer had a perfect freebore for the 120 class bullets
