14 degrees this morning just at sunrise as I left the house. Went down on the Wichita River and slipped up to within 252 yards of a dead yearling where 5 coyotes were posturing. Had my cross sticks cut from a willow tree on Adobe Walls Creek in 1987, I sat on the cold ground and settled in to wait for an opening shot. Finally had a moment and knocked one down at 252 yards and one at 182 yards, both with the .222 Magnum Ackley Improved! Was really cold!
Y’all stay warm today! Our high is supposed to be 32 degrees!

Coldest daylight hunt I recall, -40+(wind chill). Shot several red fox, I wore Nylon thinsulate mittens with Nomex flight gloves underneath. Fingers would get cold carrying fox. Air temp -25, buddy and I were worried about leaving the truck shutoff and radiator freezing out in the open. So far this winter no nights below -15, cold even in a blind with a buddy heater on the subzero nights. Started using a rechargeable tent fan with the Buddy heater, helps a bunch in a pop-up or hard side.

-20 coming to night, staying well below zero during the day. Just January here, hockey day MN this coming Sat. All day TV coverage of outdoor hockey. Kids/adults talk pond hockey. NOAA says a balmy 25 with NW winds. Warm enough to sweat.

Yes sir, I understand that a lot of the guys are in colder areas. How many of you are sitting on the cold ground behind a small mesquite tree for 2 or 3 hrs calling the wily coyote! Not me.

It takes some real skill to hit a predator off a cross stick at 252 yards. I know because I have hunted this way since 1999, using homemade cross sticks. However, mine are solid aluminum rod with heater hose on each end.

To date, I have taken 2.014 grounds and over 100 predators with this system. However, I choose not to disclose how many I missed.

This hunting at the primal level! :):):):):) Just love it!

Yeah I suppose 14 is pretty cold for TX. Nice to hear he was getting out and enjoying it regardless.

A normal stadium pad works ok, but when it's really cold I have one kinda like this only 1.5" thick that I picked up decades ago. Your backside doesn't even notice the snow/ice. Just make sure it's closed cell, lol.

Of course good gloves and felt packs round that out. Otherwise just layer up and something that acts as a windbreaker if it's not still air. Good to go for day after day of below zero with the right gear.

My favorite time to go coyote hunting is when it's around -15 or less, even the super smart ones are hungry enough to come in but really anything under +20 is productive, just nothing like well below zero especially once it's been like that for a week or more. I will say at -30 I found it no longer enjoyable, even when I was young.
