a good varmint bullet for 6BR

what bullet would you suggest for my 6BR for varmint. currently shooting 105 berger hunting vlds with varget. .236 bore 27.25" 5R krieger 8" twist. 80 grain bergers or 87 bergers? or would some of the mid-heavy ballistic tips work?

they have a 55gr and a 70gr, the twist you have and the 70 at .299bc would be my choice, it is the 70 matchking with a balistic tip that causes it to explode on contact, twist and velocity not a problem for the jacket.

I saw one heck of a good group shot from a 6br in about that twist using the 87gr Vmax. I know they work wonders on the varmints too. WD

105 A-max is definitely worth looking at. I switched from 75 V-max to 105 A-max because of the wind. A-max still hits small light skinned game hard...bonus is its not a bad club day bullet as well.

I'm pretty confident that the 105 A-max will open better than the 105 Berger's (varminting), certainly the A-maxes opened better than the 88 Berger varmint, easy to load for as well.

Howdy !

Sierra's 6mm 85gr HPBT is just stupid accurate, and deadly.

I weight-checked 3ea boxes of them, and only found 2 differing bullet weights per box !
That's nigh unto unheard of ( also, one reason they're probably so accurate ).

I shot them in a 29" 1-8 SS 5-groove, and they grouped superbly !

65g V max at 3650 with AA2230 and 55g Nosler Ballistic tips at 3900 fps with AA2230.

The issue you will have is that your chamber has a long throat, as the throat grows there may be loss in accuracy. You can only jump a bullet so far before it get started crooked.

75g V max were not accurate in my rifle, and 87g V max only are inconsistant from lot to lot at the lower velocity of a 6 BR and 105's may just punch holes through them. 70g Blitz kings are extremely explosive if your rifle will shoot them.

With the slower velocities of the heavier bullets, just watching them fall over or crawl off is just a fact of life on some shots.

Dave, I am looking at the stock u have on the 6br. I have the same stock on a Savage model116 in 7mag and love it. I bought the gun used and never did find out what make it is. Maybe u can help.
