Took my favorite shrimp and her older brother out for some lead flinging yesterday.
Weather was HARRIBLE, and coming at us at about forty MPH. The kids are tough, and didn't seem to mind.
We took .22's, 218 Bee, 20 Ga., and 8mm K-98 Nazi Mauser. Targets were 16" gong, tannerite bombs, clay pigeons, and -- rocks. I did just enough shooting to prove I'm not over the hill-- yet, and they both proved that someday I will be.
After a few hours of practice, we took to the hill in search of jacks or cottontails. The predators, winged and clawed, have done a number on the bunnies, and the few that still live are tough pickins. Grandson scored however with a great snap-shot with the pump-gun. Those kids are troopers, and didn't want to give up after letting a little blood. The shrimp particularly wanted to score, but it wasn't to be. This was the first time she's been with older bro for this kind of thing, and now he's like a God to her. I tried not to get jealous.
I've got a crippled foot that works pretty good for me, but today I'm ready to take a hatchet to it. I'm gonna have to tough up a little if I get these two out for serious hunting. jd
