I've been stopping by a farm looking for ghogs on a regular basis. It's where my friend has a large garden that supplies the local Harvest House soup kitchen. Shot one there what seems a long time ago, but nothing since. Until today that is.
As I was glassing a smaller field where I know there are two sets of holes, I trained the binos at the garden way over to the left and low and behold, I see one at the edge of the weeds above the garden.
Since I've got the .17 with me again, I have to get closer. So I drive truck to a better vantage point, get out and make my way to the front where I glass the hog at 107 yds. Go back, get the gun, place the gun on the hood and the crosshairs on its head (it's looking straight at me) and take the shot. 20 grain hollow point Smack!
At first it goes down. Then it takes off, leap frogging into the air several times until it finally comes to rest. I'll bet it's another first year hog with one of those extra twitchy nervous systems that won't give up without a fight.
Forgot to check the sex. Looks like it could be a male. Here's the DRT. And it looks like I nailed it right in the eye. Drops won't help this time.
