As my body continues to fall apart, I've been doing more range shooting and virtually no hunting anymore. Anticipating that this day was coming, a few years back I purchased a Tikka T1X LR and have been enjoying shooting it at 50 yards off a Harris bipod for score to track my performance.
The last few range sessions I noticed my scores dropping off despite most of the shots "feeling good", i.e., called. Long story short, I finally traced the problem to the bipod. The Bipod stud screw had loosened which apparently was causing the erratic shots. Once I tightened it, bingo - my scores picked up significantly. It was a DUH moment!
Apparently, the screw had worked loose from the repeated folding and opening the legs over the last couple of years since the Harris Bipods had heavy springs. I applied Loctite to the screw but will also periodically check it from now on.
