A&D fix-120i question

I just purchased one of these balances/ scales. When I place the pan base on, it wobbles and does not sit flat. Is that how it’s supposed to be? The pan base has a cone shaped center that’s kind of squared off at the base. I guess if you own one you know what I’m talking about. I turned the base to make sure the parts line up but it tilts and wobbles. Any ideas? Thanks. I included a pic.

Have a look down into the depression that the pan sets into and see if there is any debris and if so blow or vacuum it out, also check to see if the bottom post of the pan has not been damaged or has some sort of debris on it.
The pan should just set in and sit flat, I have been using one for years and never encountered what you have described.
A good upgrade for your scale is to look at Area 419’s site and get the machined wedge platen and their powder cup that fits exactly centre of the platen as it has a milled spot for it.
Also, as rjs1230 suggests if you have not already done it is to just turn the pan and see if it doesn’t just drop into place.

Yep I’ve looked and don’t see anything strange. I really wanted confirm that somethings not right. Just curious what material is the base you guys have, made of? Mine is ABS plastic, do some come with aluminum bases?

The Area 419 one is solid machined aluminium…
Sorry about the delayed response, I had to go and find my original A&D platen.
Yes, it does have an ABS plastic base with the metal face fitting over top of it.
Just round with locating bumps on the very top of the base post.
It is these bumps that need to be aligned to allow the platen to sit flat.
Pick up the whole assembly and attempt to re-locate it as perhaps you are just turning the top piece and not the bottom and therefore not having the locating bumps line up.

From this picture, is there something under the pan on the right side?
Flip the pan over and then take a pic of it and the scale and maybe we can troubleshoot.

Ok I found the issue. I put some sharpie on the cone and squared base and placed it on the scale and wiggled it gently. I saw one corner of that squared portion rubbed off. It was just excess plastic, almost like a burr, that I just trimmed with a knife. Such a small amount I couldn’t see it. Well thanks for all the feedback gentlemen.

Good deal! Glad you caught the problem.
