a cheap scope that works

I have given this a lot of thought before bringing it up. I mean look at the quality of the glass that is sold or traded here, and well, my ears will probably be burning for years.

However there are also members here that while saving for the "perfect" scope for the rifle they are building, would still like to take their new pride and joy out and start using it while they save. I'm not saying this is a scope of the quality of those fondly spoken of here, simply one that with my old eyes it works well out to 500yds. (heck, i'm not saying it's a scope of any quality at all)

I have had two of our local br directors remark on the clarity of it while looking through it. That was before they knew what it was. With one of those directors sitting at the next bench i have shot br groups at 100yds from a bi-pod using a .260 tactical and that scope.

As i write this i am sitting on my back deck looking up at rooster peak, it's a little over a mile away. There is a rock jack, (form of fence post) up there i use to check scopes out with and on 20 power this scope does as well as most have. It is clear from 6.5 to 20. I don't what more you could ask of a ... (here goes) ... $110 scope when on sale. Which it is every other month only at midway. (they have the rights to it)

Ok, it's a name that means only junk anymore but non the less this is well worth the money. It's a simmons white tail classic 6.5-20x50 wide angle a.o. Just maybe this will help one of our members get started using that rifle while saving for the right scope. blue

I am a huge fan of the buck master 6-18 mil-dot scope that they only sell. I have had it on every rifle and I use it for load testing because the POA and POI are dead rock solid. The clicks are inaccurate but I use the mil-dots to hold and have great fun with that. It is one of 2 scopes that I would never sell and it is the one I have had the longest and the one that was cheapest.

I agree that the Simmon's White-tail Classic is a cheap scope that will stand up compared to most cheap scopes.
Their downfalls that I am aware of:
1. Clarity - below average
2. Tracking - turret calibrations is poor - as well as repeatability
3. Parallax - very poor on high magnification
