A big thank you to our barrel makers.

After reflecting on my time as a BR competitor, I decided to go back to my old records and see what my best barrels were. The best 6 PPC barrel was (without doubt) a 14 twist 4-groove Krieger. I believe that it could truly be classified as a "hummer". It shot from birth through its life and after one setback and rechambering.

The best 6mm dasher barrel was an 8.25-7.75 gain twist Bartlein 4-goove. It won several 600 yard matches for this mediocre shooter.

My best 6 BRA barrel was a Lederer 8-twist 4-groove.

My best .22 PPC short barrel was a 6-groove, 14 twist Hart.

I have shot several other makes of barrels and some were excellent, but I think these were BEST.

Chambering of the above mentioned barrels was done by COL Billy Stevens except for the 6BRA, which was chambered by Murry Crowe. Thanks Billy and Murry
I have two barrels for the "Mutt" that show a lot of promise, but it is too early to give them a final classification.
What were your best barrels?

How is Murry? I used to shoot f class with him some. He was always a hoot

My two best ever...a 3-groove Lilian and a Shilen match select both 1-17 twist chambered with a Henriksen by Gary Long, 30 BR reamer shooting N130 and BIB 118 gr bullets. Both on an old Panda in a Speedy stock.

Rock Creek 6 mm chambered by Loren Lieder (13.5 twist) and a Hart 20 cal 10 twist, also by Loren.

Also a Hart 22PPC made by Clyde and chambered by Mr. Sinclair.

Pacnor 1-18 twist 30x47 chambered by the late Ron Shultz, R.G. Robbinet said that those barrels in that time frame were some of the best !! presently I’m shooting a Lilja 3 grove 17 twist 30BR chambered by my cousin LanceXXX @Buchannan Accuracy ! So many great barrel makers theses days !

I’d like to revive this thread since some of you may have changed barrel makers due to long lead times on some makes and chose another maker due to shorter wait time. Anyone used a barrel maker different from what you normally used and been pleasantly surprised?

Howdy !

My 24" SS 1-14 .224" cal 5-groove Hart that Fred Sinclair chambered in my
" .22-35 Remington " wildcat. Hornady 55SX all day.

The 28" SS .224" cal 1-8 cut-rifled 5-groove from K & P, that James Peightal chambered in my " .22-35 Remington " wildcat; for shooting 75"A"-Max ( both on groundhog & targets ).

*** The stock 24" SS 12-groove " Ballard rifled " barrel on my J.M. Marlin M-336 XLR
.35 Remington. *** Just an incredibly stupid accurate barrel.

The 29" SS 1-8 6mm Broughton I have on my current varmint /target rifle ( Wichita
WBR 1375 action ).

With regards,
