A 6mm for her

So, I've been wanting a low recoil 6mm for a while, likely a straight 6br, but my other half has an interest in shooting with me, so this is my chance to get the 6mm I've been wanting. Not that I need approval, but if it's for her, it's a double win. My goal is a budget build, r700, remage barrel, have stock and trigger, T-36 scope, should come in right about $1K, not including reloading supplies.

My question, do I go for straight 6br and let this rifle live its life for 600y and less, or go 6Dasher and try to use it at 1K? Not interested in anything larger than a dasher, 6x47L maybe at the biggest, not 243 or 6creedmore, as she is not likely to shoot it very often and it would be a back up gun to me anyway.

Basically, why should I go Dasher over 6br?

Not wanting to fire form brass or have any range sessions not be about absolute accuracy. I currently shoot an AI in F/open and I dont think she will understand what fire forming is about.

Its shooting in California, plus I wouldn't want to have her get frustrated shooting in any wind at long range. I know the round is very capable of 1K performance, but here on the west coast there is typically more wind.

You got your work cut out for you, frustration comes with the territory (wind and long range)

All joking aside the 6 with 107's handles it better than I expected. I've wanted a dasher for a while but the straight 6br is so easy to load and shoot I just grab my 6.5x47 if I need more. For a new shooter and pure enjoyment 6br if a little extra recoil isn't a problem a Dasher. I would do a straight 6BR If she is wanting more it would likely be about the time it needs a new barrel.

Hahaha, I guarantee that bag of chicken will be completely see-through by the time I get there! Mark might be a good option, I have a very good local Smith (former WR holder) but he has loooong lead times.

Nice thing about going with a RemAge is I can buy a barrel ready to go and install it myself. Basically, looking at what I can get away with per paycheck without tapping into earmarked fun money.

6x45mm has no recoil to speak of (in an average rifle, it kicks like a .223rem in an AR-15), it has mild blast, light powder appetite and case forming is simply necking up a .223rem. It's a ton of fun up to about 600-700m. It can easily add 100fps and 10gr of bullet weight to what you'd expect from any particular .223rem load. You could put it on your nose and shoot it and not get a bloody nose.

I saw that last week, but with the holidays my fun money is spent, sadly.

6x45 is no doubt a fun little cartridge, but for this gun I'd like to keep it to something similar to the 6br. If I was going to go with a 6mm cart sized for an AR, I would just build a Hagar.

I have had a BR Drop Dead Wonderful ...

Now have the 6Norma Dasher , Never stops impressing me .

They are easy to load for brass ,Dies Buy anywhere ? No Fire Forming .

Let her start w the 6mmbr. After say 500 or a thousand shots. It is easy enough to do a set back & Re-chamber for the BRX if needed. You get to use the same brass & dies.. Pretty easy & very economical boost to horse power. You will have to fireform . I'd like to try just using Dasher formed brass in my BRX die set up, But I have not done it yet. Mike in Ct

6BRA will fit nicely between dasher and 6BR and fireforming is a breeze. (Once she sees fire forming in action I don’t see why she would have any trouble with it)

At 1000y a 6BR or 6BRA is extremely capable but on the light side. At 600 it’s a force to be reckoned with.

Depending on timing you might make your first chamber a straight 6BR and worry about BRA or BRX when you have the reamer and dies.
