9mm Luger load for 124 Hornady XTP

I’m planning to load some of these bullets for inventory and reserve defensive use. (I know about the admonition to NOT use reloads defensively.) Hornady’s data stops at 1150 and is only reached with two powders: CFEPistol and Accurate #7. I’m trying to get close to the Hornady “American Gunner” load velocity of 1170 fps. I’d like to get somwhere in the 1120-1140fps range. I have Unique, Universal Clays, BE-86, WSF in enough quantity to load all the bullets I have. I believe Hornady’s data is conservative, so I’m asking if anyone has chronographed data you’re willing to share?

WSF is a perfect choice. It’s like VV for blue collar reloaded. Apologies my data is unavailable. For the 147 class bullets in 9mm Para, my favorite powder is Silhouette.

I should add that 115-124 class bullets I shoot only jacketed, 147 class are cast.

Hornady's data is NOT conservative, but meets SAAMI pressure requirements. Factory ammo uses non-canister powders designed often for specific applications.
A max load in one manual is 8.0gn AA7 for 1150fps. Another reports 7.3gn AA7 for 1150fps. Another, 7.9gn AA7 for 1150fps. Those are the highest velocities I can find in my manuals where Hdy XTP-HP bullets were expressly used. Strange that they all show the same max velocity.

Riflewoman,
I use the load that the Border Patrol Pistol Team uses. Look at the Accurate load data online and look at Silhouette powder. Most accurate powder I found for my 9. Definitely will get you up where you want to be and was more accurate than 231, Titegroup, HS-6, and CFE Pistol for me.

Have fun!

My load for a 9mm / 124gr XTP is 4.5gr of Red Dot . OAL is 1.125... Velocity is in the range you're looking for , and I shoot it out of a Glock 22 with a Drop-in 9mm barrel . Fast , accurate , and I haven't found any negatives after 5-600 rounds .

A Quickload run done a while ago... the pressure build of Red Dot does not seem to be within pressure limits. This has been confirmed in other calibers.

Different test barrels. No two barrels are the same.

be-86 would be a good choice as well.

The newest Sierra manual says that you can use 3.9 to 5.3 grains of BE-86 with 5.0 grains producing around 1150 fps from a 4" barrel using their 124 and 125 grain bullets. They list this as a +P load.

overlooked old school red dot powder always was good choice for 9mm it never stopped working use it for 45acp 44spl 38spl oh and 12 ga. trap whats not to like

Shooters World shows 1163 fps with 5.5 grains of their Ultimate Pistol powder, and 1149fps with 7.3 grains of their Major Pistol powder. I'll see what the Lovex load data shows (CIP specs).

Looking at the Lovex data, there's plenty of powders in 9X19mm that top out above 1150 fps with 124 grain jacketed bullets, some up to 1246 fps max loads. The Shooters World data I posted is SAAMI specs specifically with 124 grain Hornady XTP bullets. It's reasonably easy to cross reference the Lovex powders numerical codes with their Shooters World names.

I use Hodgdon Longshot, it meters well and is very clean burning. A friend of mine swears by Hodgdon CFE Pistol for the same reasons, it is probably cleaner than the Longshot. I also use Alliant Unique (a bit dirty) and Blue Dot (max velocities).
