95gr Berger in 243Win factory 700

Was just curious to see what loads people are having success with in a factory 243 Win Rem 700 using 95gr Bergers.

What is the twist rate? My 243 tight neck quick twist Rem 700 SA is unreal accurate with 95 & 105 Berger VLDs well into the lands pushed by RL-22/CCI-BR2s using Lapua brass. Post your barrels twist rate.

The Remington factory barrel, for the .243 Winchester, would have a 9" barrel. According to the Berger charts, the 95 grain VLD would be OK on this twist.

Well guys I wasn't able to do a whole lot of load development with my rifle but with the first loads I did try the 95gr Bergers didn't shoot as well as the 95gr Ballistic Silver Tips. To date I have taken two deer with this rifle using the BST. One went 20yds and the other was DRT.

When I strayed into the 95gr bullets for my 243, I found the same thing you did. The 95gr Bergers didn't shoot as well as the BT's, and the Hornady SST's shot better than both. A friend of mine used the SST's on deer for several years with no issues at all.

For deer using the 243, the Sierra 85gr HPBT is still the absolute best bullet I've ever used on em period. :) Just my 2 cents worth from my experience with them. ;D WD

A factory 700 243 barrel has a 9 1/8 twist. I found the 95gr vld was a pain in the butt to get to shoot accurately in my 700 vls. My rifle shoots best with H4831 SC.

Whats the OAL? I shoot woodchucks with a 700vls with 95gr VLDs consistently at a 1/4 mile or more. I seat mine 15 thousandths off the lands, varget or 7828ssc, and cci primers. If you keep playing with them, you will find you can stack these one after another into the same hole. They shoot.....
