95 Gr BIB FB

Milan & JamesnTN

I just got my 95 Gr BIBs and they are a good looking bullet that I'm anxious to get started on. I intend to start with an 8 twist barrel since I already have it ready to go.

My question for you 2 guys. Have you done enough testing to determine if there is a "sweet spot" velocity for these bullets?

I did do a quick and dirty chrono test yesterday just to establish a base line. I loaded 5 rounds of my 107 Gr Sierra load, substituting the BIB, and I got about 150 fps more velocity. That seemed like an awful big increase to me. What did you guys experience?

TIA

Ray

I'm curious about the two bullet diameters involved.
Could the 95gr BIB have a smaller diameter than the 107 SMK ?
My new 6br is getting closer to the finals, and this information would be very helpful.

The BIB 95 has less mass than the 107, better concentricity, and a distinct pressure ring at the base. This means less friction, plus a better gas seal. +150 fps does seem like a big gain, but 100 fps wouldn't surprise me at all.

Some shooters find the Lapua Scenar 105 will run 15-25 fps faster than the Sierra 107. However, recent lots of the Scenar are about .0006" smaller in diameter than the SMK. The BIB is actually about the same diameter as the 107 Sierra, up to the pressure ring.

Talking about pressure ring, how is it being measured? Set of digital calipers or what? When I measure with calipers there seems to be no difference at the base of the bullets.

Ray, I never chronographed them, but I got my best accuracy with 30.5 Varget and moly-coated 95 BIBs. Time was short so I didn't try other powders but I suspect 4895 might be even better.

Hi Ray,

The best accuracy I am getting with my rifle is between 2975 and 3005 fps. My barrel is 28" long. I use Varget 31.0-31.3 grn. At 3003 fps, my bolt was little sticky, however accurancy is outstanding.

The best accuracy I got from my 7.5 twist 6 Dasher was at 3036 fps, Note that the 7.5 twist had to be tuned down to get this accuracy so I couldn't push them probably as they could be pushed and get the same accuracy these bullets are capable of.
