87gr V Max in 12" twist

It's (12) what my 6-284's are twisted at and I use 87 V Maxes and 88 Bergers.

I have been able to stabilize them in my 12 twist .243 Win. out to 200 yds, haven't taken them any further than that yet! That's on top of a moderate load of H4350, 42.9gr. to be exact! I have that barrel off right now but, soon I hope to take to 300 yds. and if they're still stable there? I think they'll work even farther!!

I killed a PD at 1,020 yards with a 12-twist Shilen and 87-grain V-Max, never had any kind of stabilization problems in my 6x284.

I`m hoping to get them to shoot in my 12 twist 6 dasher...

Pretty sure VolDoc gets them to shoot just fine in his 12 twist dasher...

Wow, I'm glad I asked. I figured it was a long shot. I thought I was going to have to wait for the rebarrel. Going to the reloading bench now. Thanks.

Just wanted to post a update. Shot my Savage BR 12 twist today with the 87gr v max. I was impressed. They shot awesome. I shot my best group ever (high 1's)with them this morning. 32 grs of Varget 10k in the lands was it. Can't wait to shoot them out further.

As so many have indicated, they will. I've won local varmint matches with the 87 Vmax in my 12 twist Savage, but not often. I win a lot more with the Berger 80 FB, but the Vmax is the ticket for real varmints.

I was talking to somebody today who said they might not continue to stabilize at long distance when velocity drops. Anybody have experience with these at standard br velocity between 500 and 1000?

Waterfwlr,

If you look at the first pictures Birdog posted in this thread those groups were at 700 yards.....

They look pretty good to me. 8)

I don't know if I should post this question somewhere else on the forum. I would really like to know because I don't have a long range available to me. I would hate to assume because of how they shot at 100 and then start shooting at praire dogs at 500-1000 and not have them be stable out there.
