87 V-Max in your 243

I'm just looking for powders suggestions and possibly OAL that some of you guys are shooting behind the 87 V-Max.

Into on my gun. I'm shooting a Ruger M77 Mark II. It has a 26" heavy barrel with a 10 twist. Just acquired this gun just trying to get some ideas on which way to go with the 87's

i recommend H4350...i got awesome accuracy out of it in my savage and rem. 700. both 22" barrels. if memory serves me correctly i was right at about .020" off of lands

Excellent bullet for an excellent caliber.

I've had my best success with IMR 4350 and Federal 210 match primers. COL varies depending on rifle. My Remington 700 and Model 7 like 2.700" where my Tikka T3 Lite likes 2.650" due to the short throat.

I've also had great success with the Sierra 85 BTHP and Nosler 90 grain BT. For a pure varmint bullet the Sierra 80 grain Blitz is excellent.

Another powder that has worked well for me is IMR 4064 especially with bullets 85 grains and under.

Thanks guys. I have tried 4350 and got decent results I was just looking for some other opinions. What kind of speed are y'all getting out of the slower powders?? Those that use it

Out of a 24 inch barrel Rem 700, I'm getting 2,975 but I'm loading at 41.0 grains of IMR-4350 which gives me the outstanding accuracy (under 1/2 moa). The hotter loads (under maximum) do not group well enough for me.

H4350 and H4831SC both gave similar results at 100yds for me. I had to print targets at 200 and 300yds before I could make a decision. The slower burning H4831SC won the duel and that load maintains ~0.35 MOA to 850yds. I have a blueprinted Mauser, 26" 10 twist heavy Douglas barrel. BTW, I love it that I can shoot that inexpensive V-Max from R-P brass with good results.

I'm running 43grains of H4350 with the 87vmax out of a Remmy model 7 predator. She is pushing around 3045fps. Dad had open heart surgery 3 1/2 months ago and needs a light recoiling gun for Pa whitetail season. I am interested to see how this bullet performs on lung shots.

I concur with H4350 and H4831SC as both with good potential for the 87 grain v max in the 243. They both worked good for me.

At this time my 243 is getting re-barreled. I will start with those two and that bullet once I get it back.

It is a Rem 700 and is getting a rock creek 10 twist

Believe it or not were shooting the 87s out to 1k, and getting very good results, over 43.5gr of 4350, loaded to jump from standard OAL (2.710) At 100 it's holding .5 moa, and at 1k I have had some 5 shot groups at sub 5" , but most running around 6-6.5". This is an awesome bullet. Another good bullet is the Sierra 100gr Prohunter. Boring accurate, nothing fancy, just shoots great. I'll never shoot another Nosler as long as Hornady and Sierra are still there. (Much cheaper, and shoot just as good)
