8208xbr with 6dasher

I don't hear of alot of people using 8208xbr in a dasher, mostly varget, rl16,n550,ect..... seems like the only load data I've seen showed pressure at 31-ish grains. Just doesn't seem right considering I load 30.5g in a 6br, and 29.4 in a ppc with no pressure signs.

Has anyone been shooting 8208xbr in their dasher lately? I still feel in my mind it's one of the greatest powders ever :)
Any good load data on 95's and 105's in a 4 groove 8 twist kreiger?

In my 6mm Dasher woodchuck rifle, i'm using 8208XBR with 105grn A-Max bullets and also in a 6mm Dasher varmint rifle with 75grn V-Max bullets. Couldn't be happier with the 6mm Dasher and 8208XBR combination.

The woodchuck Rifle uses 31.0grs of the 8208XBR for the 105grn A-Max Bullets @ 2900fps SD=6fps ES=14fps I a 8-twist 26" Kreiger barrel. That FPS matches my Nightforce MV.5 1000yd Ballistic Reticle scope. No dialing the scope just using the 1000yd reticle, quick and simple, it's a thing of beauty.
My varmint rifle is also used to fire form the brass for the woodchuck rifle, it has a 23" X-Caliber Ram/Age 6mm Dasher Barrel. With formed brass, I shoot 33.0grn of 8208XBR with the 75grn V-Max @ 3300fps SD=8. It shoots very well, 33.0grn seems to be the sweet spot for low SD and accuracy. At 34.0grn the groups start to get larger and the SD is higher. I wish it was faster however, I'm after accuracy and low Standard Deviations in my rifles.

Thanks. Russell. I care more about accuracy than velocity anyhow. I guess I'll just start about 30.5 and keep creeping up .3 at the time until I show a little pressure. I'm still a few weeks out on making this project happen but trying to get all my stuff together. :)

On the varmint rifle, including forming the brass. I have loaded & shot the same five Lapua brass cartridges nine times and the primer pockets are still tight. I just want to see how many loadings I can get until the prime pockets start to get loose, time will tell.
Also, I have been reading Tony Boyer's book, The Book Of Rifle Accuracy and Mike Ratigan's book, Extreme Rifle Accuracy. Both author's talk about fire forming brass. They both say to applying a small amount of light oil to the brass before fire forming brass. It makes the brass flow better during fire forming. I tried it and found that the headspace on my fire formed loads were .004" longer when I added the light oil than without adding the light oil to the brass. I had the same results (+.004") when I fire formed 220 Russian brass for my 20PPC.

Good info.... thanks. I think I'm going to let djbs on here hydroform me 100 brass that I'm thinking should get me through for a while. I've got a few guys around here that get together two sat nights per month and shoot for cash and this year decided to go out to 600 to even everything up. I don't shoot all that many match rounds but will tend to wear out a barrel practicing and tweaking loads at home. Very doubtful the barrel will outlast the 100 brass before the pockets loosen up. :)

Dependent on barrel length of course, for 105/107 class bullets in a 6Dasher, can expect 32 to 33-gr of IMR8208 to achieve 2900 to +3000-fps nodes from longer barrels.

A couple of my barrels like it. I found it to be like H4895 in that it doesn't take much to go too hot in my dashers with a 105 class bullet. Max loads, 32gns in my .237 bores and 31.5 in my .236. They tend to shoot best hot but beats on the brass. I try to find a load at least a half gn light of max. Be safe, creep up.

Thanks y'all..... I think I've got a pretty good idea of where to go with it.
I'm in a very comfortable node with 8208XBR in my 26" Mullerworks Dasher. It is a .9g node. We load 105JLK's at 32.8g. This shoots at 2960fps. The node is a 1.5" vertical dispersion at 600yds.

I have found XBR to be a little hot for my Dasher. I have two barrels...both .236, and the accuracy with XBR is okay but like H4895, it will get too hot with small increases in powder charge. Also, if you have lot no. 1, you will find that it is much faster burning than subsequent lots as shown in my 6 PPC. If I had to rate powders for the Dasher/105gr bullets, I would choose Varget, then Re 15, H4895, and then 8208 XBR. I have not shot H4350. Good shooting....James

I tried it in my Dasher with some Berger Column bullets. (64.8g) I was able to get groups in the .100 to .175 range at 100 yards. I don't recall the exact charge weights but I was in the 34 to 35 grain area and had not seen any pressure issues. It was a completely full case with a slight amount of powder crush. Just my memory and won't be able to confirm in my notes as I am out of town for a month.
