80 JLK

I see the advertised BC for these is .51, which is great for a 224 cal. Anybody have experience with these? I'm currently running the Berger 80.5 Fullbore at about 3000fps, and the JLK would be up there with the 90VLD on paper.

According to Bryan Litz's data (Ballistic Performance of Rifle Bullets), the 80 JLK has avg. G7 BC of .230. While very good for an 80 gr bullet, it's nowhere near that of the 90 VLD (0.274 G7 BC). Denys Beauchemin (bayou shooter here at A.S.) may have past experience shooting these.

I have used them, and Swampy uses them (he owns JLK now). I had trouble getting them to group, so I called Swampy, and after that I started jamming them 0.010", after which they grouped in the .3's. Very consistent performance at 600 in July, and I never shot less than a 9. It was a hot day, and my second strings were almost devoid of "X"s, and not many 10's. I was using H380, which may be too temp sensitive, so I have switched to H4895. When I ran the numbers for the 90 gr, I didn't see any significant improvement in wind drift, and I don't have the twist to stabilize 90's, so info about those will have to come from someone who has shot them.
